I've noticed over the last week or so a number of sensible threads being hijacked by a small number of members, who I feel are better described as trolls.  I'm all for healthy debate and don't expect that we'll all agree all of the time, but the individuals I'm referring to appear to have the sole purpose of causing dissent.  They offer no evidence to support their views and, when challenged by an alternative position they either don't understand or don't know how to debate, they become abusive.

So I thought it may be helpful to remind members of some quick options we have to deal with abusive members:

-  the 'Unhelpful' button, which you'll find at the foot of every post;

-  the 'Report' button, which you'll find at the top right of each post;

-  and the "Block" button, also at the top right of each post.

Alex will act on a reported post and multiple Unhelpful votes against individual posts.

Personally, I've found the 'Block' button particularly useful this week for a couple of members who are constantly argumentative and never add value.  I'm sure others will find it liberating too 😉

Best wishes,

Kim

Hi Abarrett,

I was going to say welcome to the forum, but I see you've been a member since September, so thank you for your first post - always good to hear from new members and hope to hear more about your experiences.  If there's anything we can help with, please ask - most members are really happy to help  :o)

Kind regards,

Kim

Trust me, this forum is a much better place than it was 6 months ago, thanks to Alex being brave enough to ban certain people !

Abarrett, this  forum is very welcoming so please continue to contribute, a few months ago you wouldn’t have bothered at all but management stepped in, made firm decisions, performed selective ‘pruning’ removing all traces of what others (and I) describe as ‘trolls’ and made this place a much more welcoming environment.

Welcome aboard, you’ve taken the first steps becoming involved and we look forward to your (and others) future contributions.

I thought all those troublemakers were banished a few months back, as for trolls not so sure i would call someone that has a different view point a troll, stupid maybe but a troll no.

Hi Robert,

I don't call people with a different viewpoint stupid.  The trolls I refer to are members who post deliberately inflammatory messages with the sole purpose of causing trouble.

I wanted to remind members that Alex has designed reporting systems that allow each of us to discretely deal with troublemakers.  It encouraged Annie to make her first post, so hopefully others will join in too🤞😀

Kind regards,

Kim

Always good value. Thanks Kimmy. Sad that they think it is clever to post and hide.

Hi Kimmy11,

I have a feeling that I gave you the impression of being a Troll here, which I am not.

However, it does seem that as a non- British forum member, I do have a different view on things, and that clashes sometimes with others. I will do my utmost to show restraint when posting .

Wishing you all a better 2021,

Mandarino

Hi Mandarino,

I can assure you that your posts didn't prompt me to make this post.  As I've said before, I don't expect us all to agree, all of the time, but I don't want to see anyone on the receiving end of personal abuse, simply because they offer an alternative viewpoint - and while others have done that recently, I've seen nothing of the like from you.

Best wishes,

Kim
