Hi all,

I know some members have reported that it´s been very difficult to get an appointment with the INSS, in order to register their S1 for healthcare - Torrevieja INSS office has been especially problematic.  Some good news - this procedure is now available online and Gov.UK has issued instructions on how to do it:

Kind regards,

Good news, however, the link just gives you the links to access the Spanish S1 document, the document is in Spanish as are the instructions, okay, not difficult if you speak Spanish but very difficult if you are not a fluent Spanish speaker, the UK gov advice indicates you digitise all your documents,S1,Padron,Residencia,

Passport, and Spanish form for S1,after that there is no information as to how you actually register online,no good trying to do it by telephone, phone never answered ,in person for a cita previa impossible as ,like everywhere else, civil servants on unlimited holidays or reduced hours, you have to look for a Spanish gestor to act on your behalf or spend day after day trying to do what should take minutes.

In years gone by did all this myself ,no problems, nowadays it is a trial of will power and dogged committment to beat the system.

Just spent three hours trying to work through the online form. It will only accept one attachment and as mentioned by steveyjoanna there is no option on where to send the form. Last year my neighbour went to the health centre in Cabo Roig with her S1 form and the staff there did everything. When I tried to do the same I was advised that I might need a lawyer to assist me with the process. What?????. It looks like us "newbie oldies" are being made to suffer for the UK government's decision to leave the big boys club.

An update on progress, tried online and in person to get an appointment to process my S1 ,slight diversion,we have Residencia but prior to Covid we visited UK and got trapped, stayed in UK for a while.

Got back to Spain,Residencia okay but SIP had been cancelled as we were back in UK due to Covid and back in the NHS.

Got in touch with International Pensions UK ,after we arrived back in Spain, bit of a delay as everyone is working from home ,by phone ,and the whole thing hinged on us remembering the date we qualified for UK pensions, eventually worked it out and after three operatives over four days we got things completed.

The documentation took a week to arrive from UK to our postal address, this gave us the documentation required to go forward.

Had Residencia, got Padron for new abode, because like in UK ,civil servants etc in Spain ,are in the Ivory Towers ,could not get online or personal National Police appointments.

Decided to try "Help" Benidorm, they gave me a number for a helpful Gestor in Benidorm.

Rang this number,966802669,Elizabeth,for the life of me I cannot remember the actual company, very helpful, went to her office,3rd floor, opposite Ale hoop in Old Town Benidorm,we had Residencia,we had our Padron,Passports, and S1 ,so no work involved for Gestor

She checked paperwork ,everything as required, said she would do the online processing for us ,charged us €20 each and said the S1 paperwork processing to give Spanish Health Service access would take about 4 days. There was a public holiday,Valencia Day and so after the weekend we went in and pushed things a bit and got the S1 Spanish authorisation paperwork that day ,Tuesday, went to the health centre ,no problem, registered and allocated Doctor and given SIP card, done and dusted .

Basically,if you have all your paperwork in order, plus copies, there is no problem .

We are now in the system, have SIPs and are relaxed!!

Do you have a choice of doctors (ie English speaking) when you register the S1? TIA
