Hi
Just arrived to my holiday home in Formentera and one of the aircon units isn't working. Okay, I could get by for the next few weeks with the ceiling fans but it's the constant bleeping from the unit that's driving me crackers. So much so we're even thinking of booking flights home.

I've tried a couple of repair services advertised in this forum but all are busy with long waiting times.

My neighbour reckons the unit simply needs regassing - I'll need regassing too if we can't stop this alarm.

Can anyone recommend an engineer who could do emergency repairs/call outs?

I'd appreciate any advice.

Helen

Can't you unplug it or switch it off at the fusebox / circuit breakers?

Going homes a bit extreme - it must be driving you crazy.

Done the switching on/off at the mains. Hasn't made any difference.

Have tried a couple of local tradesman and left messages. If I could just silence the alarm...

Surely if you switch it off and leave it off it'll stay silent if there's no power going to it.

Are you sure it's not a faulty smoke alarm that's beeping.

Nope, turned it off at mains. Doesn't make any difference.

Definitely not the smoke alarm.

Can't think why switching off at the mains wouldn't silence it?

Regassing is always the first conclusion people jump to when an air conditioner stops working, and it might be the reason, however if it does then it has to mean there is a leak somewhere as they don't naturally lose gas so it's important to check for and repair any leaks before regassing, if you don't it will be like pumping up a flat tyre then looking surprised when you find it flat again the next day.

Thanks for your advice. I'll be sure to mention that to whoever can come out and take a look this weekend.

It's not looking hopeful tho' and in this heat I'm getting desperate

Thanks for your advice and suggestions.

The message on the display is an exclamation mark and the temp. It won't turn on using the remote so not sure exactly where the fault lies and the handbook makes no reference to this type of alert. Have checked it hasn't tripped and all that's okay.

We have the local maintenance guy hopefully coming over on Monday or at least he's asked me to give him a ring on Monday so I'm staying positive we might actually see him the same day! Failing that we'll just have to book an engineer and make a decision about what to do for the rest of the holiday. Can't see us putting up with this constant beeping for much longer.

Have you replaced batteries in the remote? Just a thought

It's a good thought and yes, not only have I replaced the batteries I also went out and bought another new set in case the brand new ones were faulty!

Thanks for the suggestion tho'.

I think my next move is to take a sledgehammer to it!
