Hi all,

Gov.UK has published an update regarding passport stamps for UK citizens entering and existing the Schengen travel zone, specifically for those UK citizens who have Spanish residency under the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement.  Earlier this week the EU Commission instructed its member states, where they are also members of the Schengen travel zone, that their border controls should not stamp the passports of UK citizens who are resident in the EU, if they are beneficiaries of the Withdrawal Agreement:

"Page summary:
Information for UK nationals living in the EU, EEA EFTA countries and Switzerland since before 1 January 2021, including guidance on residency and healthcare.

"Changes made:
Added 2 new links:

"1. ‘EU guidance for UK nationals on entering and leaving the Schengen area’ for information about the 90/180-day rule and passport stamping for UK nationals covered by the Withdrawal Agreement.

https://ec.europa.eu/info/sites/default/files/rules_for_uk_nationals_when_entering_or_leaving_the_schengen_area_for_publication_v2_en.pdf

"2. ‘EU guidance on holding multiple immigration statuses’ for information about the rights of UK nationals covered by the Withdrawal Agreement to hold multiple immigration statuses."

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi

Clear as mud...

How is UK citizen defined?

How is UK national defined?

I know, I'm probably being pedantic, but are they both defined as UK passport holders?

Cheers

Yes, although some may be dual passports holders.
