Hi

We have a holiday apartment in Formentera which is not used for rental purposes. My spanish lawyer who handled the property purchase has calculated my non-residents tax liability and quoted me 180 euros for her time to submit the tax return on my behalf. The actual cost of the tax liability is quite small in comparison to the lawyers costs.

How do other non-residents pay their tax return? I'm sceptical about agreeing to pay legal costs but on the other hand I've read scary stories where the Spanish tax authorities can freeze bank accounts, charge interest and seize property if tax debts are incurred.

Any suggestions ?

Helen

We have read many comments from people who have done their own tax returns but feeling daunted by the prospect we used Spanish Tax Forms Ltd who are based in the U.K., simple to use, supply them with the basic information and they will complete the Mondelo 210 forms, send them back to you by email and you simply have to sign and date them and take them to your Spanish Bank. The company charges £29.95 and there should be no charge at your Bank.

Thanks for sending me this. It's a huge difference to pay £29.95 compared with the cost of a Spanish lawyer.

Hi I can endorse what John56 has commented about Spanish Tax Forms. I have used them and the only reason I no longer have them do my return is I now do it myself. The website is simple to use and you don’t pay until you receive the completed Modelo 210, the fee of £29.95 is per property not per person. The response time from completion of the information to receiving the completed forms is very fast. You won’t be disappointed by their service.

Why not learn Spanish and then do it yourself. The cost of the lessons would pay for itself!

I have been learning Spanish :) however I am also willing to instruct a suitably qualified and experienced person to act on my behalf in Spain, hence the query.

Once you've battled with doing it once, you'll save on lawyer's fee every time in the future because the retujn will be exactly the same

We have owned our holiday apartment for twelve years. We continued to use our solicitor to pay the taxes in our behalf as not living there full time it was easier. Others I am sure take care of their own taxes.

Thanks to everyone who gave me their recommendations.

In the end I went with www.spanishtaxforms.co.uk. They were super efficient, prompt replies, helpful explanations and it was all done and dusted within just a few days at a fraction of the cost my lawyer wanted to charge. I would definitely recommend them.
