Well that sounds good, already have night price.

Sorry to say we ask the same co. to come as we wanted our potencia raised, as we have an underbuild, so needed another box, we were quoted nearly 900 euros, what a rip off. We contacted a Spanish co. For the same thing and there quote was 400 euros, make what you may of this, but  British is...

I must agree in some instances, as when I wanted new windows supplied and fitted , I obtained 3 quotes for the work and the best was from the Spanish company and very good they were to, most agreeable.

Hi Jean,

I agree; in the five years I've lived in Spain, I've used a variety of trades, some Spanish, some English, and I treat each project the same way - get at least 3 quotes and understand the contract terms before committing.

I would also like to make something clear that perhaps didn't come through in my original post.  I received the information from Sparks Electrical about the PVPC electricity contract because I am a previous customer.  I believe that this is simply a form of targeted marketing to their existing customer base.  It was me who chose to share it and I realise now that I should have removed their email address, as they may not appreciate me creating the potential for almost 40,000 CBF members, the majority of whom won't be Sparks' customers, to contact them.

However, Geoffro has kindly shared a link to another company also offering the PVPC contract with Iberdrola and I'm sure there are others.  It's up to members to check out the options on offer; again, understand the contract terms and make any decisions based on your own circumstances.  That said, having checked the rates of my existing Iberdrola contract, I will almost certainly be changing to the PVPC contract to reduce my bills.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi all,

I've used Tony Poole of Sparks Electrical ( www.sparksinspain.es ) several times for things such as extending wiring and installing new sockets, installing ceiling fans and outdoor sockets.  I've always been ...

...pleased with his service and cost - and best of all, he always cleans up after himself!  Also, Tony's wife, Elaine, offered to review my electricity bill and recommended that we change to the Night Plan ("Plan Noche").  That was 4 years ago and I have to admit to not having reviewed our electricity supply since, so I was interested to receive this article from them today.  It may be of interest to other members.

Kind regards,

Kim

SPARKS ELECTRICAL SERVICES

We constantly hear people complaining that electricity is expensive in Spain. Social media is full of posts about the high cost of electricity and requests for advice about the cheapest provider.

Well here is everything you need to know, how to reduce your bill and get the best possible deal on the market.

Understanding your electricity bill and knowing the correct tariff to sign up for is the key to save money.

Three key reasons for high electricity bills:

-  You are signed up for an expensive tariff, without even knowing.

-  You are paying hidden extras, insurances and services you never use.

-  You do not understand your bill, it all looks like gobbledygook.

If you think that you fall into any of the above traps, then read on…..

Contrary to what some people believe, IBERDROLA is the cheapest provider. You just have to know what to look for!

If your contract is with IBERDROLA  CLIENTES (they’re the folk that IBERDROLA employ to run the high street points and the pop up stands in shopping centres and supermarkets), it is a FIXED price. IBERDROLA CLIENTES is similar to a franchise, which is called a “Marketeer” here in Spain.  It’s a facility set up with several options for their customers, including insurance policies and multiple language services.

If you have switched to another provider, initially, you get a honeymoon period with a slightly better deal, but you will probably end up paying more in the long run.  Ultimately, you are just paying a third party to pay IBERDROLA, as they own the whole infrastructure in this area.

Get Smart – how your smart meter can save you money:

Enter the new Variable Price for the Small Consumer (PVPC) now available from IBERDROLA, but this tariff is not available through IBERDROLA CLIENTES.

With the introduction of smart meters throughout Spain, consumers can take advantage of the real time fluctuating cost of producing electricity which is fixed daily by the government.  Basically, you can cut out the marketeers.

Go compare:

The PVPC tariff is a basic contract with no extras, no thrills and no add ons.

Typical rates for the PVPC with Night Plan tariff per kWh:

Peak : 11.8 cents. Off Peak : 5.3 cents (daily average)

Compare the rates with IBERDROLA CLIENTES Night Plan per kWh:

Peak : 18.3 cents. Off Peak : 9.1 cents (fixed for 12 months)

The cost of the standing charge:

Regulated rate: 11.1 cents x contracted power (kW) x per day

CLIENTES: 12.3 cents x contracted power (kW) x per day

Contracted power = the amount of power you signed up for. Typical examples are 3.45 kW, 5.75 kW, 9.2 kW.

The bottom line: the PVPC tariff provides the lowest rates and standing charge currently available on the market.

Cut out the marketeers and see big savings on your electricity bill.

Can you get this with English billing ?

Hi Juny1,

I've always had English billing with Iberdrola.  They have a good website and if you register for paperless billing, you can download your statements, which can also be read in English too.

Kind regards,

Kim

What I understand is the very basic charges are a lot lower than any offers re your 8 hour plan, so as said a no thrills contract direct with IBERDROLA works out cheaper than those of us who signed up with IBERDROLA clients, re the touts in the superstores, worth checking out and re reading this thread again, good luck, stay safe and healthy my friend.

But it depends on the times when you use your electricity-heavy appliances. Basically, for most people, that's hot water and heating. Personally, I'm not interested in heating at cheap rate at 3am, and I don't usually need hot water before midday. I've set my cheap rate for 10am to 1pm, and then 6pm to 11pm, because that's when we use the expensive appliances. Everything else is trivial by comparison, including the oven

Yes and agree with you, but having a quick look at Kimmys first post, basic peak charges are 11.8cents, off peak 5.3cents and a standing charge of 11.1cents, where with the 8 hour plan you pay peak = 16 hours at 19.9cents, 8 hour plan 9.9cents, standing charge 12.8cents, so if correct with the kWh worked out, would the basic no frills plan work out cheaper or higher, I have my bill and will have ago and let you know. But I am no mathematician!!! Any one know what the basic on/off peak hours are?

I have mentioned my 8 hour rate before.  0.1445 euro/kwh  peak   and 0.06450 euro/kWh off peak.  Nearly all my usage is off peak.  Potencia  5.75KW  is 45.00 euro kW per year.   I'm happy with that.

Hi Peter,

The Off-peak hours are:

Winter season - 10 pm to 12 noon

Summer season - 11 pm to 1 pm

The remaining hours are Peak.

The season's change on the same weekend as the clocks change for Daylight Saving Time, i.e. we changed to Summer season on Sunday 28 March.

Kind regards,

Kim
