Thanks Kim useful information, as a holiday home owner which we've not been able to visit for over a year, it is galling to see the high charges on our bank statements. Just for info, we visited the Ibidrola office in Guardamar, the lady working there was very helpful in finding us the best tariff at the time and saved us some money. When we next are able to visit we will pop in again as I'm sure the tarrifs change frequently. Thanks Kim helpful information.

Hi Socym

You're very welcome 🙂

Coincidentally, I went into Carrefour last week and was approached by a chap on an Iberdola stand just inside the store, who said he could offer me 20% discount on my bills.  Thanks to the info from Sparks, now that I understand how the "marketers" work, I gave him a polite,  "Gracias, pero no gracias"! 😉

We also use the Iberdrola office in Guardamar and popped in there last week to ask about the PVPC contract, but it was busy with only one station open, so we're going to try again next week.  If I can find out more, I'll add it to this thread.

Hopefully, it will only be another month of two before you'll be able to get back to Spain 🤞

Kind regards,

Kim

Good afternoon

Let me explain the PVPC tariff to you all.  It is the "regulated" tariff whereas the price is set on a daily basis and is fixed by the Government based on the cost of electricity production.   The price is published every day on the internet at 8.30am

This tariff is not available through Iberdrola Clientes because they don't make any money on it.

All of the other providers that you see are resellers including Iberdrola Clientes and they are unregulated..  Even if your contract is with another company you are still with Iberdrola, but you are paying a third party to pay Iberdrola on your behalf and they charge a premium for the service, for instance one company I know charge you €5.00 per month administration fee for paying Iberdrola

I arrange my contracts with Iberdrola direct with the PVPC rate with Plan Noche, this is by far the best tariff out there.

They only offer three tariffs, stable where you pay the same rate for the 24 hour period, night plan where you get 14 hours of cheaper electricity and an EV plan designed for those that have an electric vehicle.

Like many on here I have the night plan with Iberdrola and arrange to do everything at night like washing machine and dish washer.

My daytime usage is fridge, freezer, water pump (on and off all day), TV, kettle and domestic basics.  My monthly bill comes in between €50-60pm.  It has been like that for a while now.

So how much could PVPC benefit me?

I would recommend to anybody that wherever possible you get rid of electric water heating.  My water is heated by instantaneous gas (propane/butane) heater.  That's fine if you have space and inclination to change bottles. Many will not be able to do that.

The beauty of gas is that it never goes cold on you.   If one bottle runs out, it automatically changes to the other a puts up a red flag nearby. There is nothing worse than running out of hot water covered in soap.

If you are lucky enough to have natural gas, so much the better and that is even cheaper.

You need to compare the rates that you are currently paying.   Today on the PVPC with Plan Noche we are paying 0.08 cents peak and 0.03 off peak.    With Plan Noche with Iberdrola Clientes the rate is around 0.18 cents peak and 0.10 cents off peak.

But you can eMail a copy of your invoice to me at [email protected] and I will calculate exactly what you will save by changing to the PVPC tariff with Iberdrola direct
