Hi there

We are very very excited that our offer has now been accepted and, although  we know we have a long way to go, are looking forward to emigrating from the UK to this area hopefully Spring 2022 we have an awful lot of olive trees to look after !.  Any tips , on anything ! We would be extremely grateful ! David and Jen

Hi David and Jen,

Congratulations, I hope everything proceeds smoothly for you.

Friends of mine pick their olives and take them to Elche for processing - they typically get paid a small sum, along with a few bottles of their own oil, as they only have 7 trees.  We also have friends near Almeria who have about 30 trees and they were pleasantly surprised at how much they receive for relatively low maintenance costs.  It's quite time-consuming to pick (shake!) them from the trees, but very rewarding.

Are you moving over with a Non-Lucrative Visa?  If so, you'll know that you have 1 month from arrival in Spain to apply for your TIE (residency) card, so don't hesitate to ask if you need recommendations for a gestor to help you (lawyers also offer this service, but are typically much more expensive).

Best wishes,

Kim

Hi there Kim

that’s brilliant advice - thanks so much ! We are applying for the NLV here in the UK and we’re intending to use lawyers based in Barcelona who have said they could help us apply at the Spanish embassy in London and then recommend a gestor in Spain for the second part (so if you have any recommendations - we’re all ears !!

Sorry but I cannot help with information about abogados in that area - it is quite a way from either Barcelona or Elche.   However, I would suggest that you have a look at the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain website for bureaucratic information and the N332 website for anything to do with driving in Spain.   The latter is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.   Also, the N332 Facebook page has kept us up to date with rules and regulations in respect of the virus since March 2020.
