Hi how far are we allowed to walk with our dogs during Lockdown? We have 2 very active dogs that are usually walked 3 times a day plus toilet trips.

You are not allowed to walk a dog.

What you can do is take it out for the toilet but such trips should alone, only as necessary for the dogs needs, no further from home than absolutely essential, and as short as practically possible - in other words for toilet needs and little else.

Given that it's possible to argue that for anyone with a garden where their dog can go to the toilet and run around then they have no justifiable reason for stepping off the property with it at all.

If you keep in mind that ALL trips away from home should be for ESSENTIAL and JUSTIFIABLE needs only then questions about what you can or cannot do should rarely arise.

Unfortunately there are selfish people out there who seem to regard having a dog as a licence to go out and wander at will but the Guardia are getting hot on those flouting the rules and dishing out stiff fines.

Movingon posts:"You are not allowed to walk a dog."

In fact you are. You don´t have to carry it. Any walks should be in the vicinity of around approx 50m, and on it´s own with one owner sufficient enough to do it´s business, then home.

Taking a dog out for essential toilet needs is not a walk, maybe that's a definition owners can better understand.

Still waiting to see 50m in print but seems reasonable, hardly a 'walk' though and not in the sense the question is being asked.

Hi without getting too deep discussing what is a walk & what is not. A report on the news referred to a dog walker advised to return home (by guardia civil) as he was further away from 50m. But more importantly is:

to walk your pet (this was not mentioned in the original list, but mentioned specifically during the Q&A after the press conference) (amended) royal decree 463/2020, although the walks should be kept to a minimum. Maintain a safe distance between other dogwalkers and remember only one person can walk each dog during the Spanish COVID-19 Lockdown.

hope helps

We were advised by town hall (Almoradi).

No more than 500 metres from your door

No more than 30 mins

1 person to walk the dog only

People have been fined 'dog sharing' - one story of the same dog being walked by 5 different people! They are on to this & if spotted, you will be fined.

Let's hope the Guardia agree.

How's this for a definition of a 'walk'

If you paid someone to walk your dog and they only went 50 (or even 500m) would you feel cheated?

Hi, In that case, see this idea for dog-walking without even leaving your house:

That's a shocking idea - lowering and raising the dog, by a lead attached solely to its neck - is tantamount to animal cruelty, do that a few times a day and watch your dog's neck get damaged - some people are just plain stupid.
