Hi, my wife and I are in the process of buying a finca just outside Benicolet.

We are from Scotland and Ireland originally but have lived in Holland for some years and for the last 4 years in Mallorca, and are looking to move in the next couple of months to the mainland.

We are looking for any information about the Gandia and Benicolet area, especially weather wise concerning the heavy storms and flooding last month, and if there are any British, Scottish, Irish and Dutch expats that would like to meet up when we get there, or any regular expat meet up events in the area of Gandia?

I am a custom airbrush artist specialising in helmets and motorcycles and my wife is an English teacher and Dutch-English translator.

We look fwd to hearing from the community.

Cheers, Mark

Hello Mark my husband and I moved last year from Scotland to Pinet a every small village near Benicolet. He is from the UK and I am American. We absolutely love the area although it's more inland its quite convenient. From our experience we are one of the fewer expats in the area on this side of the mountains. The people have been wonderful in welcoming us in our little town and we are quite the novelty speaking limited Spanish but we try. In this year we have been all over the area finding Xativa more of our go to place rather than Gandia. We do most of our shopping in Xativia and our bank is there. It's a beautiful historical place that we never tire of visiting unlike Gandia which we find is more industrial. Gandia does have a beautiful seafront and a lovely old town just perfer Xativia. Being in Benicolet you will be near the main highway there our advice is to explore. You will happen upon many small villages with wonderful markets which tere is even a very small one in Benicolet I think on Saturdays. Benicolet is a very small village Llutxent would probably be your nearest larger one. You can find most things you need there a baker, small clothes stores, banks, grocery stores and restaurants.

About the weather...its great most of the time. Our experience has been January a couple of days of rain and high winds but warm days cool nights, February and March the same. April it rained most of it last year. May through mid July was great sunshine and warm temperatures but then August was over 120 degrees with humidity. Then September through December was nice. We get rain but living in the mountains it does shield us from alot of the rain and flooding Spain had this past year.

We hope you love it as much as we have and welcome you to the area. We dont know if any expat groups in Gandia and surrounding areas but are probably some near the beach areas in Gandia. When you get settled perhaps we can meet for a coffee or a pint. If you need anything let us know my husband raced motorcycles in the UK years ago I am sure he would love to talk shop with you. Our email is [email protected] if you and your wife want to get in touch or if you make your way to Pinet just ask at the pub for us.

Safe travels and congratulations on your move.

Hi Shells,

Thank you very much for your very informative reply. It sounds just what we are looking for, and a bit like the area we are living in at the moment in Mallorca. Friendly people and very welcoming in a peaceful area.

We definately would like to meet up with you and Mick when we get there and I can talk shop all day about motorcycles and racing. 👍🏁 😁

Thanks for your email address. We will be in touch soon with our mobile numbers.

Have a great day and thanks again for replying.

Cheers, Mark
