I am surprised that you could not use an umlaut as it is used in the Spanish language, e.g. pingüino - penguin.   Plus, there is a district of Marbella called Nagüeles.   However, maybe it is because an umlaut in Spanish is usually used over the letter 'u'.

Hi Hansjörg and welcome to the forum,

In German if I remember correctly, the ö was normally written as oe, ö not being available on most keyboards at least directly. It is normally present on the 100+ symbols on the virtual keyboard on most Western European machines.

Hi,

it maybe a dead thread by now but check your PC is configured for German keyboard, I had similar issues before in other languages, alternatively press Alt+0246 for ö ( looks like it's accepting it)

Hope it helps.
