Is there a shop near or in Gate for such items, or a good mail order anyone can recommend.

Harris Furniture on the Pedreguer industrial estate (poligno) do reupholstry and furniture repairs. They may be able to point you in the right direction if you drop into the shop..

Hi, the owner of Gracie's bar in El Campello upholstery cushions, boats, caravan etc. Don't have their number sorry.  I am a seamstress and make curtains etc, but I can recommend him and his wife.

There is Perez y Perez in Pedreguer, on the road out of Pedreguer towards Alcalali. They have a huge selection of fabrics - although nothing that I would call UK ‘designer’ quality, as Spanish and Northern European tastes are usually very different. Having said which they do have a wide selection. They also have a huge range of haberdashery items, although I’ve not seen webbing for example, it it depends exactly what you need. They do have a good selection of haberdashery for dressmaking and that kind of bits and pieces - except they don’t sell Gutermann thread! Catastrophe!!!

They are certainly worth a visit, hope this helps.

thank you sounds like it would be handy for some things, as for the initial material for upholstering chairs then the fabric, seems like I will again have to order from England as usual...spose not enough call for do it yourself here, understandably most come to retire.

Well, basically it’s Spain, not really for catering to retired Brits!!!!!! One haberdashery shop told me, when I was bemoaning the lack of fabric (dressmaking), remembering that years ago there were lots of fabric shops, told me that of course virtually no Spanish woman does sewing now given the low cost of clothing. Also, most younger Spanish women are now working, so I assume lacemaking and so forth is also dying out. And few Spanish people would consider undertaking their own upholstery, the shops where one can buy fabric mainly expect to undertake the work them selves.

There is a shop in Calpe - Fabrix - run by an ex UK textiles man, but he doesn’t pretend to have any really good quality stuff - it’s similar to market quality. He is extremely helpful and does have a few good things, but told me that he has what he has because no-one is prepared to pay for good quality fabric.

I also order quality fabric from UK as there’s nothing I really like here. There are also a couple of extremely good quality German suppliers whom I use: myfabrics.co.es (substitute whichever suffix for country region) and fabrics-hemmers.. Both obviously have websites. Huge range of whatever you can think of. First class service.
