Been trying to contact bancoSabadell to change my account to a key account so as not to incur 50 euros quarterly fees in march 2021 that had just been raised from  30 to 40 euros quarterly in December2020.

Not being able to go into the bank personally because I am in the uk I have tried emailing and ringing the gran alacant branch to no avail, has anyone any idea how to contact the branch.

You need to have residency for the Key account which you may already have and when we changed we had to go into a branch with the relevant paperwork unless things have changed.

Thanks I was unaware that you had to be a resident, so I may be better off looking at another bank and seeing what they have to offer for non residents. I just think 50euros a quarter is way too much just to pay a few direct debits each quarter.

Mine from Bankinter was €47.50 so no comfort from them either. They’re all in a mad race to kill the Goose that laid the golden egg.

I think all Spanish banks charge fees, online banks are an option.

Hi Keith, I have also been trying to contact Sabadell at La Zenia and i think they are ignoring ALL emails from UK.

We have an Expansion Premium account which gives us free banking as long as we send 700 euros a month to our account and have house or car insurance with the bank. Since Brexit they are now charging 18 euros for receiving the 700 euros each month so it is pointless keeping this account as it costs more than the basic account now.

I send the money with Currencies Direct who are in negotiations with the banks the have these illegal charges stopped. I say illegal as the UK is still part of SEPA.

From a post I put on here I have found out that I can set up a regular transfwer with Transferwise and won’t be charged because they use their EU bank in Belgium to send the euros.

I told CD I will give them till next weekend and if they haven’t sorted this then I will be closing my account and use TW.

Some people on here even have their utility bills in Spain paid using TW. Something I am looking at to get away from the bloody robbing Spanish banks.

Regards Ian

Recently I have emailed Sabadell and they have replied quickly. I have found sabadell surprisingly helpful after reading negative posts on this forum.

They not only replied to my emails quickly, also I have spoken to them on the phone and they have helped me to close my account remotely so I do not have to travel to Spain in these difficult times.

This is incorrect.  I had Sabadell's "Key Account" when I first opened a Spanish bank account as a non-resident.  Once I had moved here permanently and obtained residency, I was able to switch to their "Expansion Account".

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim,

Thanks for the info,so would I still be paying 50euros a quarter with the key account just for paying direct debits if I held minimum sum with the account.

Hi I have the key account with Sabadell the charges are €37 every quarter. I’m non-resident too! I use TransferWise to pay money from my U.K. account into my key account....there is a charge of approx £4 to do this, I usually do this 2-3 times a year when larger bills are due! I have the Sabadell App on my Fone, I’ve also foned the bank a couple of times in the past year...ive always found it easy to get through to them & very helpful & they speak very gooEnglish!

Good luck 🤞
