It took me years to get to find people to go out with before Facebook and WhatsApp as I am not in Spain permanently and kept missing people that I had met previously.  I now belong to several Facebook groups and a WhatsApp group but not in your area.

If you haven't already tried suggesting a Meetup somewhere suitable and convenient for you I would try that.  It might be daunting but if you don't try you never know. I know that a few people went to Alicante from Torrevieja a few weeks ago so Alicante wouldn't be too far for you by bus.

Worth giving it a go - good luck

For me...(only my opinion of course). I don't do facebuk or whatever they do it. It is so much easy( if one person male or female) again......my opinion.....the cafe bar-culture leads one person (without recrimination) to simply a chat. Proviso- learn a little spanish little by little.....this country will lead in. Helps. & enjoy this oportunity Villas

hi shaunagh, i loved your message  it was exactly what i would have said , i find myself in the same position as yourself, i moved here 18 months ago  alone and feel a bit of a recluse which i did not expect as i am fairly outgoing and up for trying new things, like you i dont drive so find it difficuilt to get around and find most meet ups or groups are not in my area although there is a few in torrevieja but feel a bit daunting going to meetings alone, i must try harder but just wanted you to know you are not alone ? wish you well and hope you  find something soon x

Thanks. I have just joined an intercambio to improve spoken Spanish. I am still real a beginner but did manage a few sentences.  I went there in recommendation from another lady  on this forum and we will be meeting up later this week.  We will also be meeting up with one of the men from the group on Thursday to go to another intercambio at a local bar.  Hopefully this will develop into more contacts.  Keep at it.  It is not as easy as people say but worth working at it. A new charity has also opened near me, so if they can accept that I come and go, I might have a chat with them and see if I can volunteer. Slowly but surely!

Hi, not sure which area you live in but guess up top as you would need taxi to the bowls.  I volunteer for SAT Dog Rescue and have just opened a shop on the terrace of shop next to Sueno Azul restaurant on Avenida Meditearneo.  We only opened a week ago and are always looking for helpers.  You do not need to live here full time to help.   We are a friendly bunch who are mainly just getting to know each other and are planning some social events. We are open 10 until 2, Mon to Sat pop in and see us.  I am there most days particularly afternoons (12-2).

I will come down for two reasons - 1. I have many items that may be good for the shop and 2. I would like to volunteer but was worried because Ibam not here all the time.

You are in the right location for me and yes, I live near the Farmacia.  If I don’t make it today - Monday, I will pop down on Tuesday.  Thanks for responding.

Do you have a charity shop in Gran Alicant that you could do voluntary work for. My wife does one day a week in Guardamar and has met some lovely people both customers, and helpers who she has become friends with. Hope everything goes well.

There are two Charity shops in Gran Alacant.  The Easyhorse and the SAT Dog Rescue which we opened just last week.  Volunteers most welcome.
