Just a large warning to anyone about to visit Spain regarding reason for travel with UK passport. I traveled to Stansted Airport early morning today 17th to take a RyanAir to Alicante flight.  At the check inn with all the correct papers: PCR/SPTH with QR code plus proof of sold house contract & notary appointment to exchange+ UK passport!!!   BUT i was denied access to travel as the very important official at Ryanair that meets you and questions your reason for travel said NO to everything and NO refund!!so NO flight..There was no compassion.

I returned home straight after with a heavy heart of sadness as I cannot put a closure on my place in Spain that I have had for 18 years. With old age approaching & recent breast cancer I thought it was the right time to sell & it has taken 4 years to sell!! Unfortunately of all times it was now in covid. The cost of the loss of car hire/car parking/tvl insurance/PCR before & after & finally RyanAir flights will not be refunded...& negative equity on the place!!

So please all of you be careful...Krystal

A member Funcolin, shared his experience on this website 2nd May titled I got into Spain last week without residency, with only a pre dated Padron, but he flew from Luton to Alicante with Ryanair. Although he was forthcoming with some questions asked, others were not answered! Thank you for sharing your experience and hopefully you will be able to fly in the near future, stay safe and healthy my friend.

Sorry to hear this but as it stands you are NOT allowed in to Spain for the purpose of sale, purchase or rental of property. Even though you can leave the UK for those reasons!

Some have got away with it but it is a risk to try it.

Hi krystal1968,

I'm very sorry to hear of your experience, but thank you for offering a very helpful balance to those examples making it sound easy to travel to Spain at this time.

Best wishes,

Kim

Really sorry to hear about your situation, what a shame when you went ahead and completed all the requirements as you read them at the time. It’s about time Spain got its act together and decided once and for all if they want visitors, tourists, holiday home owners etc from the UK to return there, or not!. It’s not as if the Economy is thriving, or that visitors from the UK pose a viable threat. Maybe pressure from the rest of Europe to have a combined stance against the U K. But Spain is strong enough on its own and has a very good record as far as Covid is concerned as apposed to many other European countries to negotiate an independent agreement as far as travel is concerned. Or, is it just Spain, I really don’t know. But one thing I am sure off is that its not doing Spain any good, for now or the future.

Hi Krystal

Could you not get your solicitor to complete on your behalf with power of attorney? I, m not too sure on this aspect but I keep seeing it mentioned by people in your situation as an answer for completion.

There was some interesting comments on the post PCR test before arriving in Spain, posted on the 12 May by peebee169 on this website, well worth a read.

Hi Paulene yes we have a Power of Attorney put in place just in case we had any problems...but it is the closure of the house & all the little things that I will be leaving behind. Krystal

Yes I can understand that's a problem. Do you have a good friend/neighbour who could retrieve your items and hold until you can go for them, possibly liaising with solicitor for access?

It does seem if you do things correct ( ie. not signing on padron as non resident) you are penalised, as many non residents have stated they have got over showing just their padron, which of course is implying they are resident.

Hope things get better for you, a very expensive experience indeed. Good luck.

Regards

Pauline
