Hi, we sold our holiday house in Spain last summer, but I am really missing Spain and the sun. So we are looking to buy again. Our previous house was in Punta Prima, so we always needed to hire a car to get from the airport (I dislike car hire and the pressure of the car hire sales people) so we would like to buy a property nearer to the airport and be able to get a taxi when we arrive. So, what does everyone think of Gran Alicant. Does it have a nice beach, are there some good places to walk. Is there a good selection of restaurants and shops. Also, should we be looking at any particular area or community in Gran Alicant. Looking forward to any help, advice and info. xx

Hi we have bought 2 properties in Gran Alacant,  we wanted close to the airport so no need for a car and also easy access to get home if needed,  we have just moved out for good. We have been holidaying here for 3 years and fell in love with the place then. We like the fact its quieter and it has everything you need. Good luck with your venture

Thank you Sandra, is there a bus service from Gran Alicant to Alicante etc. Which urbanisation would you recommend we look at. Xx

We researched what areas where close to the airport and which had a microclimate and Gran Alacant came up. My twin had holidayed here and advised us to rent first. We rented in Novomar , very good quality builds and close to beach but not shops. We ended up buying both property in Puerto Marino as we heard it was also a good builder who'd also built Mediterrano beside Novomar. We thought close to supermarkets and every day things was more important than close to beach. Alicante bus service is about 25 mins away and only 1.50 euro each. I'm sure you already know that the property here isn't as sound proof as the uk. Seen a property for sale in Novamar for 80000 at the minute absolute bargain but I still prefer close to shops and bus stops

Thanks for all the info Sandra. We will look at the urbanisations you mentioned. We understand what you are saying about the lack of sound proofing!!!. Our previous house was a town house. We were lucky that the neighbours were good, but we could still hear chairs being moved etc. This time we are looking for a detached property with good sized outside space. We would like to be able to walk to restaurants in the evenings (in nice shoes!!) we don’t mind being further from the beach etc. We usually like to take a long walk in the morning - around 1 hour. We did a long of travelling around the area as we have our previous house for 13 yrs, but never went to Gran Alicant. I think I will start looking for a rental for a short break xx

Hi Janet,

I note you are looking for a detached property, that will exclude some of the urbs in GA straight away, may I suggest that you go online and download a copy of the Gran Alacant Advertiser, it's free, at the back you will find a detailed map of GA showing the various urbs which may help a bit. There is always likely to be a trade off between quiet, secluded property and proximity to shops/bars/restaurants, however the Montefaro urb may be of interest to you and is only a 5 min walk from a block of bars/restaurants on Av.Escandinavia - but a long way from the GA centre where the bigger supermarkets are (there is a small supermarket very close to Montefaro beside the Life Resort, which is ok for a basic shopping trip).

Happy to answer and specific questions you may have,

Michael.

Hi Janet,

Forgot to also suggest googling for My Gran Alacant which will bring up a link to a website of that name, a mine of information about the area and what goes on in it, and finally google for GAsbags which will bring you to our own forum here in GA, lots of help and info there too.

Michael.

Janet

If you are looking for a detached property near to bars, restaurants and supermarkets etc, you should really be looking at the detached villas in the Monte y Mar (lower) area of Gran Alacant.  There are the traditional 'older style' villas + there are a lot of new build types there too.

Couple of estate agents we would recommend that would be able to send you details of such properties are https://www.ga-homefinders.co.uk/ and www.granalacantproperties.com/  and, of course, if you were looking to stay in Gran Alacant whilst looking around, we have an excellent selection of apartments and properties all over Gran Alacant!  https://www.alicanteholidayvillas.com/alicante-rental-properties
