Hi everyone! This is my first post on the forum... Many of you will be aware of the new walkway for the paragliders up at the top next to the Olivo De Oro/Brisas Del Faro Community. But how many of you are aware of the fact that a new wall is under construction which will reduce the paragliders' site by more than half?  This has been instigated by the President & Board of the  Olivo De Oro/Brisas Del Faro Community who own that particular area of land. Their aim is to separate community land from public land mainly because they have a personal grudge against the   paragliders.

You may well be surprised to learn that my husband & I have owned a house within the  Olivo De Oro/Brisas Del Faro Community for over 10 years and we, along with many other owners are totally against such an unnecessary action. On the contrary, we are aware that paragliding has been practised on that site for almost 30 years. As, like many of you, we love to watch them soaring across the cliff tops...

It is not known for certain but we strongly suspect that planning permission for the wall has not been given by the Town Hall.  Even if it has been granted, why oh why would the Town Hall approve of this when they have invested so much money in the building of a new walkway for the paragliders? Surely paragliding is one of Santa Pola's/ Gran Alacant's tourist attractions?

Tomorrow, some owners from our community and from the paragliding community are to meet at the site in order to protest this insane idea! The media have been invited too and if you would like to add your support then please visit the site before 12 o'clock tomorrow, 20th September. If you are taking the train then the nearest stop is at El Faro, stop No 12.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, my first post! This photo, which shows where the fence is to be built, was taken today! Please feel free to tell your friends... we need your support!

Hi,

The parapente sport is much more less dangerous than driving a car or crossing the road, swimming, diving...

It is a sport which requires an enormous amount of responsibility and craftsmanship. People who do this sport are friendly, very responsible, and ecofriendly (no motors) and especially no voyeurs. So please don't judge to fast. I support this sport and we must protect this unique sport and of course protect the parapente zone for Gran Alacant. It's an unique setting on the Costa Blanca!
By the way, I live nearby the take-off zone and it's amazing to see it every day again. ;-)

Extra information about this "private place". Their is an official agreement (from the very beginning... between Olivo de Oro, Brisas del Faro and the Parapente Organizations of Gran Alacant that those sport clubs can use the complete area. That's also the reason that recently Santa Pola invested a lot of money in a Walkway, a mirador en that they are going to upgrade the parapente zone.
About voting out the parapente gliders is completely nonsens. The majority is PRO this sport and against the building of the stupid concrete wall which indeed will kill that sport, that's for shure. I hope that their will be enough common sence of the ayuntamiento to stop this ridiculous situation before it is to late.

Living in the UK I have been coming to Gran Alacant for the last 15 years, twice a year for minimum of 15days each time, solely to Paraglide.

Self catering accommodation in a nearby complex is rented together with a hire car but frequently fly this coastal site under Doyouwanna's supervision due to its convenience.

There are better flying locations sites in Spain, in particular Algodonales, however I have remained faithful to Gran Alacant primarily due to the Cabo site access and Doyouwanna services.  If this site is lost it is most likely that I would use the English club, Andalucian Experience, in Algodonales in future.

Events will be watched with interest, and my local club SE Wales HGPC, is being kept informed as they frequently come to Gran Alacant for the same reasons.

Alfonso,

you are president of the commitee board of Olivo de Oro,.  since day one you have been trying to stop us doing our sport.

All neighbours of Olivo de Oro know well enough how 'your' voting was held,.....Yesterday, neighbours of Olivo de Oro were present to support us at take off.   They found it rude, illegal and outrageous their names were used as being against the pargliding.

For years we have been tolerant to dogs shitting on our take off, even yes, on our little tabourets we put for our clients to rest in the shade, dogshit was put .......  We never complained, we wanted to be more civilized, more educated.    And now this.

So sad you ar not in favour of one of the jewels Santa Pola has as tourist sport attraction,

Nick

Please dont lie...

do not lie ... all the neighbors who attended the Annual General Meeting voted and by immense majority decided to build the wall on our property. This paragliding track has never been approved because it does not meet the standards for take-off and landing. They have many places to fly and not endanger the lives of neighbors. Thank you!!
