Hi all, just wondering if anyone would know who "owns" the tourist licence when it's applied for, I have my property with an agent for summer rental however I feel she is charging too much and my apartment is not getting rented due to the high cost she has it advertised for, she applied for the tourist licence and I'm wondering if I cancel our contract can I get the licence back or will I have to apply again for a new one? Any advice welcome

Thanks John, that site is great, looks like my agent has a separate tourist licence only allowed by tourist agents! Thanks for your help

Hi Eithno,

Does that mean you don't have a tourist licence for your own property?  If so, you won't be able to rent it out for short-term holiday lets.

Kind regards,

Kim

The License belongs to the property and will be held in the name of the property owner. If a property is sold the License can simply be changed into the new owners name. It doesn't matter who handled the application, as current owner of the Licensed property it should be in your name.

If your property doesn't hold a Tourist License of its own then it is being let illegally and you need to stop immediately. An agent will have their own agency license but they cannot legally let a property that does not hold a Tourist License.

I have bought a house with a tourist licence in January but I am still waiting for the change of the name. I have paid for it about 80 euro to change it but it still has not happened. So it is not easy.

Who did you pay to do it?  €80 sounds a lot for a name change.  You solicitor who handled the purchase could have requested the name change straight away as would have had the correct paperwork to hand to do so.  The property is legal to advertise as it is Licensed and the License belongs to the property, number doesn't change, but you will have problems registering the guests as won't have your own login codes.  Not sure why it is taking so long.  If you are in need of renting this year you can use a management company or agency to handle the bookings as they can use their agency number for registering guests.

I went to the FAB Office in MASA square at Easter time to do this. I paid for them. I am not in need to rent it out, but thank you for your advice.
