Hi,

My name is Val and I’m new to the forum. My husband and I are starting to think about buying a place in Gran Alicant, initially for a holiday home, but longer term as more of a permanent residence. We are ideally looking for a new build in or around Gran Alicant. If anyone has any information you want to share about locations, building developments etc, please feel free.

Many thanks in advance.

Val

Hi Val,

We have had a holiday home in Puerto Marino, GA for 14years. No regrets, love it. We are situated down the road far enough to enjoy the peace from the lovely shops, Mercadona, Lidl etc of which are local to us. They are building a hotel here. Perhaps rent a place here to check it out. Drive to the beach 12/15 mins. Great stylish restaurants around if you have a car and some local by foot! There is also a road train to take you around the urbanisation, great fun especially if you don't want to drive after having a drink or two. We love it!

We can’t wait to get out there to start looking, but will wait until it’s safe. All advice very much appreciated.

This is a personal opinion, but we bought a property off plan from Masa 16 years ago and to be honest I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole. They were rude, took your money and when we complained about defects it was a shrug of the shoulders and ‘No Hablas Inglés’. I would suggest that you rent first and look at the resale market were you would get a better property for your money with all defects sorted.....hopefully.......and you can choose an area which is ideal for your needs!!

Hi yes at that time Masa had a lot of complaints! We purchased from Atlas and they were good but I do think it depends on the individual people....like anything, some are good and some are bad. We were paranoid and had a long list of thought out questions from past research and put it to Atlas in an exhibition in Greenwich where we had an audience. We continued in this fashion and are the lucky ones but yes agree with you. Have to have your wits about you. I was more referring to the great choice of area and the wonderful experiences it has given us and continues to do so.

Hi Val, we have a house in 'bottom' Gran Alacant. I have not heard many good things about Masa since we have owned our house. There is a lot of development going on, and it may be advisable to long term rent first, you can get a decent property for 500 euro's a month, but they are over 12 months terms normally. I personally think like most economies Spain is going to suffer a recession, and Spain was already a trillion in debt before Covid19, so this may have serious long term effects.

With regard to where to buy in Gran Alacant, i again favour the lower part, merely because of it being more accessible to the beach and commercial centre, but i know people who love the top. There is buses etc that go around the town so wherever you buy, it is accessible. My wife and i would not have bought in GA ordinarily as we wanted a very Spanish life, but with 4 kids who want all the bars and restaurants etc, we went with a bit of what everyone wanted, and i have to say i am delighted we did. There is a lot to be said for being near the airport, it costs 20 euros in a taxi to my house, and takes 5 minutes. Alicante is 1.5 euros on the bus, and we are straight onto the N332 which gives access to all of the Costa Brava. Enjoy it.

Hi, we are one of those who live in Upper Gran Alacant - Montefaro to be precise.  We choose the top because we have facilities such as the library, doctors, chemsit, loads of bars and restaurant, hairdressers etc... plus a very nice property.  Not too far from the beach (although down cardiac hill), lovely walks to the lighthouse and the weekly market nearby.  Wherever you choose, Gran Alacant is a great place to live and there are many nationalities here.   Our immediate neighbours are mainly Spanish which is nice as we do live in Spain.  We have however, made friends from many different countries.

Good luck on the move over here. My opinion only, but would steer clear of both Masa and Atlas. Have a look around the area that interests you, then check out the local estate agents. Hope this hepls.
