Hi can anyone help. We have a wooden house placed on someone else's land. we have a contract and everything is legal. Someone has just said that as the house is on someones else's land the house is not legally ours. We are wanting to move as my husband has various medical problems and now we fear we may have to stay here.  please does anyone know about this. Surely it is the same as having a caravan on a site as our house is regarded as mobile.  Any information will be helpful. Many thanks.

There are fairly strict rules concerning what qualifies as a mobile home such as it having wheels for example, even if they are raised off the ground, so is it or isn't it ?.

If it is and you bought and paid for it then it's yours and I don't see why anyone would say that you couldn't sell it, whether it could remain where it is though may be another matter between a potential buyer and the ground owner, at worst there can be nothing to stop you or a buyer taking it away to site elsewhere.

If it's non moveable then it's a different story but again if bought and paid for I don't really see how anybody can say it's not yours although I can well imagine selling something like that throwing up a whole raft of problems and difficulties.

As Movingon has said, there are lots of rules & regulations. Is the house on rustic/rural land for example? I know people try to be helpful on these sites, but you really need to instruct and pay for a solicitor to look into things for you.

Many thanks for your answers. The house is classed as mobile because it is on 'vegars' [I dont think I've spelt that right] so though it isnt on wheels it can be dismantled and moved fairly easily. The mayor at the time gave permission for it to be built [though I know this isnt always helpful] and we have a legal contract with the landowner. Maybe we will have seek legal advice about this but thank you for your help.
