Hello everyone

Could you tell me where I might be able to buy a couple of fire extinguishers for our house.  We have had the original ones rather a long time and, although they have never been used, I think they should be replaced.  Many thanks!

If I could add to the helpful advice already provided... When choosing a fire extinguisher please remember that there are 2 intentions for its use.

One reason is to assist you in controlling small fires but typically, the primary reason for purchase is to assist you in exiting the property in an emergency. I am making an assumption, which is wrong of me, but that you are not a firefighter nor trained in the correct use of a fire extinguisher? Of course you should always call the emergency services (Cuerpo de Bomberos) for anything larger than a small fire!

I believe the emergency numbers are 112 or 080? (I may stand corrected on that)

There are four different types of fire extinguishers :

  1. Class A will put out fires in ordinary combustibles such as paper and wood
  2. Class B extinguishers are for use on flammable liquids like grease, gasoline and oil
  3. Class C extinguishers are for use only on electrically energised fires
  4. Class D extinguishers are designed for use on flammable metals.

You should consider the types of fire you are concerned about when choosing an extinguisher. Multipurpose extinguishers can be used on different types of fires and will be labelled with more than one class, like A-B, B-C or A-B-C.

Hope it helps

Hi

I bought mine from Aldi.

They are not in there all the time but you have to look out for them.

If it's of any interest, Aldi will have 2 kg powder extinguishers on sale from 7th August for €19.99.
