Hi TMarshall57

I'm trying to find out from Cajamar what we need via email - not being as helpful sadly.   I'm in UK at the moment and don't have a spanish residence/rented or owned.  We hope to move out later July to rent.  But my question is....do you need a spanish address to open an account wi...

...th Cajamar (as I'm keen to get some months bank statements building up so when we do go in July we can crack on with Residencia application).   We aim to go over in May to sort out some things including a bank account but no good if they will need a spanish address from us on the day.

Hope that makes sense?

thanks

Jill

Jill without a residency card you cant open it online(their software doesnt recognise paper nie's, so branch visit I,m afraid. We took deeds so they had address, unsure if you can open with no spanish address. If you open in July you can have easy 3months by end of year for residencia. Dont forget you need a sum equivalent to 7000€ per person in account too.

Regards

Pauline.

As PaulSav said....

You can't complete the application form online with your passport or NIE - you need to visit the office.

I filled in their online query form and stated email as my preferred form contact - but they rang me (I have a Spanish SIM).

I don't know if you will need a Spanish address. As it is a non-resident account this may be optional. My current bankers (Bankia) offered to send our debit cards to our UK address but we never received them (that's a long story).

Thanks Pauline....yes I was aware from the forum that we needed to visit in person, I just didn't want to get that far to be told we needed a Spanish address when we wouldn't have one.  Been in touch via email now (in english) with a Cajamar branch manager who is being very helpful (Tuelada).  Sounds like you don't need to have a spanish address, a uk one will do.  Although I still need to confirm they're not after proof of owning a home, by that time we will have sold up and be temp living with brother until our move to Spain.

thanks again

Jill

Did Bankia agree that you could change your cuenta facil to the cuenta On because I asked to do that and they said no, the cuenta On account is only for new customers so wasn't available to me

Its so interresting to see so many people who are prepared to work around the demands of their bank rather than change banks. Its that "comfortable" feeling with what you know than the unknown territory that could offer you more.

You are not without branch facilities with Cajamar if you really need them but you will have 7€ charge that month. Perhaps you would come to realise you actually dont need that face to face interaction as you thought. If you did then condense everything you need to do into 1 month. You do have a dedicated english support line so its not totally internet only, but I,m so glad we did the change and even the non resident certificate is cheaper which may be our only charge once in 2 years. If you counteract their demands as you advise Ray with using the credit card then the bank still wont make the fees they anticipate so they,ll be thinking "what next" and they will just find another way to get their fees. We wasted over 2000+€ in fees with Sabadell, partly due to naivity and fear of unknown, that comfort feeling and boy did we pay for it.!

Regards

Pauline.
