Do all the banks in Spain have such high fees now. We bank with CaixaBank and just to have a current account is going to cost 60 euros a quarter. We are non residents but own an apartment in Guardamar. Are there any banks with cheaper charges. CaixaBank are a good bank but now seems so expensive. Any ideas. Regards Richa

Thanks Graham, that’s a saving of 100 euros. We will contact the bank in Guardamar.

Openbank do not charge, you have to have an account each, ie not a joint account, but it's totally free.

I have written many replies to this same question re my experience on getting a fee free spanish bank account as a non resident. I recommend Cajamar online account "wefferrent" which is totally free without stipulations or demands. Non residents have to go into branch to set up, not online as white NIE not recognised on online application. Search several postings in Banking, location everywhere, theres plenty of info on subject.

Regards

Pauline.

Premium Expansión Account

With the Expansión Account plus Premium advantages, you can benefit from a zero-fee salary account at no expense, together with additional advantages for being a Personal Banking Customer. You can manage your money effectively without it costing you anything.

More information

I find this suitable with Banco Sabadell but you need to deposit a minimum 700 Euro/Month , if you have a mortgage this shouldn't be a problem. :)
