Bankia intimating by email that I need to register my mobile phone number for double authentication purposes so that they can send SMS messages to allow me to continue to use banking online and banking app.  This despite my number (a UK one) being contained in my profile details.   Sent them an email to which they replied saying that I must visit a branch or an ATM.  As I am in the UK at present and will not be out to Spain until end of October that poses a problem.  Anyone facing the same issue and/or able to offer advice on how to register the phone whilst in the UK.  Have tried calling their English speaking helpline and asked that they return my call as the line was busy but am still waiting.

Hi Bill,

I got the same email, and tried to register at a Bankia atm today. It would not take my Irish mobile number, saying it had to start with a 6 or 7. I don’t have a Spanish mobile. I think I’ll have to go into a branch - will update if I have any joy.

I got a call from a very helpful lady at Bankia who put me on to a security line to input my login details but they were automatically rejected. After a couple of failures I was returned to the lady who asked for some fairly simple details about my account, including if I could recall any recent transactions on my account. I cited a direct debit for suma. This seemed to satisfy her and she promised to ask her security section to register the number. She said I would know if it had been accepted if I am able to access my account on Monday or Tuesday (the new regulations come into force tomorrow). If not I've to call back. Fingers very crossed.

Bankia security called last Sunday but caller only spoke Spanish and as I have limited Spanish was unable to get a clear picture of what she was saying.  I asked if she could get an English speaking adviser to call the next day (manana) and she seemed to grasp this.  Didn't get call but it seems they went ahead and registered my mobile number with result that I not only have continued access to online banking but am also able to receive text messages, which enabled me to get a code to set up fingerprint login.  So all's well that ends well.
