Hello iss2a, I could be light-hearted and suggest that if you walk through town along the main road, go down to the 'Esplanada' and along the sea front, then every 100m you will find British enjoying the 300 days of sunshine and coffee for less than 1.50€. As I type this we have unseasonal rain, cold wind and no inclination to venture outside. Normally, the hospitality is very good and relaxed with many Brits willing to offer the benefit of their adopted lifestyle. I must finish this message now but when time permits I will continue with a bit more detail. Best wishes, Peter132

Hello

You might find sports clubs, but as for meeting people.....you have to be outgoing, talk to people, start conversations in bars  & cafes,at bus stops/on buses, on  the beach etc. etc... everywhere there are people to talk to & hopefully make a few friends.

It is not always easy but if you succeed ,  it is very worthwhile.

Cheers

Hello iss2a, I am Peter, nearly 81 years old. My wife & I have lived in Guardamar for 15 years .We have a corner apartment 3 floors up with a long balcony facing South & a small balcony facing West opposite the bus station. I am a volunteer at the La Mata Natural Park. When it is cooler I try to walk every Thursday from the Visitor Centre at 10am to the canal El Acequión, then along the bridle path to the bird hide nearest the island, then continuing along the bridle path to the picnic site, I then return along the cemetery road to the Visitor Centre at 1pm. I would welcome anyone to accompany me and my return route & time is flexible. Please bring water, plus binoculars & telescope if possible. I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm for this natural park. I will be there this Thursday 7th April with 3 ladies & one man.

In answer to your original enquiry, Guardamar is a Spanish 'international' town. Guardamar has a tourist office in the main square at the South-East corner where the boss is fluent in English having lived in Australia for many years. The supporting staff all speak English as a part of their helping the International Visitors. The townhall publish a monthly programme in Spanish & English ; Google 'agenda guardamar del segura. This includes The Casa de Cultura, films in the Bibliotecha in Spanish with approx one each month in English. The School of Music occasionally have mainly wind instrument concerts (I think the string instruments have problems with our variable humidity at any time of year). In the summer we have Concerts / Dances in the Parque Sofia Reina. My wife & I are at home most of the time to avoid Covid but you may ring us between 10am and 10pm for a chat and arrange a meeting point. (Repeating what I said above; we live opposite the Bus Station / Taxi Rank.

You do not state when you will be in Guardamar and for how long you intend to stay; it may be helpful for us to know. My Mobile is 690771031 & Joan is 690771031 and the Landline is 966 727 889. I hope that this helps. Yours sincerely, Peter

Hello Peter Joan

Thank you for your lovely email my name is Isobel I live in Scotland and i am 75 years of age.  We lived in Gandia for 11 years and returned to the UK 5 years ago we came to Guadamar last June to collect our TIE but my Husband took ill and Passed away beginning of September so I came home but now I woud like to return to Guadamar on a yearly rental but come and go as the 90 days allow. I have friends in Quesada but we wanted to be near the sea as my husband was a ex Royal Navy man. I would like to return by the end of the year as most of this year I am going on holiday with my family right through to september .

What you have told me about your walking in the natural park in La Mata sounds very interesting and maybe once i get settled it would be enjoyable to join you on your walks thank you

Hello Isobel, Thank you for your reply. I am sorry to learn that your husband died so early in you retirement. One downside to Guardamar is that the ships are too far away over the horizon to be seen from here. I believe that there many cheap winter rentals but those near the sea are cold and exposed to the strong winds that sometimes blow from the East. If you can afford to stay towards the centre of town you will be more comfortable, and everything is only walking distance. We do have two bus routes through the town, Route 1 is connecting the outlying Urbanizations and zig-zags throughout the town. Route 2 is described as connection the Hotels, the big hotels stay open during most of the winter. Each route is every hour or less as they do a figure of 8 crossing at the bus station. I hope that this info is useful, please get in touch with us when you wish. Regards, Peter

Hello

There are several charity shops in Guardamar, my favourite being an animal charity--if you volunteer at one of these shops you will meet lots of people & hopefully make some  friends there.

Cheers

Hi and welcome to Guardamar, I belong to a group “50+singles” we meet up often for coffee, lunch, nights out, coach trips. Male and females, no pressure.

Hope we get to meet up
