Don't over react with Spanish tap water. It meets the EU standards in 99.5% of the water and does not contain harmful bacteria. It can be hard in many places and give a strong taste due to chlorination but dangerous bacteria levels are pretty much non existent unless you live out somewhere in the campo and use untreated well water.

There are plenty of filter systems. We have a carbon filter fitted at the mains which softens the water to the whole house and does cut down the scum you get in showers or taps getting clogged so much. We don't find  the taste unpalatable but some people, especially if used to living in very soft water areas, do so have under sink filter systems fitted or simply a Britax type jug.

I have a separate filter in my coffee machine but I don't really notice any difference in the taste although it does stop it needing to be decaled so often.

If you live in a house with mains water you should not concern yourself with bacteria in Spain.

The whole coast has hard water, that you won't get away from. Best is to take a sample and have it tested, not by a company trying to sell you something, but where you pay for the test. From there you can see what is needed to improve to your needs. As far as a carbon filter, not softening your water as they remove impurities by absorption. If you want to soften your water its ion exchange or reverse osmosis, neither of which is inexpensive. No matter how many filters you have, or been sold, these are not softening your water

Reverse Osmosis will remove all impurities & soften the water. I recommend one with a booster pump if you're not sure about your water pressure (minimum 3 bar).

Plenty on Amazon.es ie https://www.amazon.es/Ecosoft-Standard-Reverse-Osmosis-Filter/dp/B0F3D2YQRW?th=1&tag=cstareg0f-21

Do be aware that for every 1 litre of pure water, 1 litre is potentially wasted. We pump ours into a tank on the solarium instead of down the drain.

What I find strange is that in the UK we have hard water, our kettle furrs up with limescale, our taps form limescale around the outlet,. Here in Los Dolses we use mains water in the kettle, it remains virtually clear of limescale, as do our taps. There are no filters or water softeners in the house. It has been like this in the 9 years we have been here.  Why is this if all the water in the area is hard water? Desalinated water possibly?

We are not here full time so just buy 8L containers of water from Mercadona that we use for drinking water (mains water for tea and coffee).

Aitch.

This is the perfect system and what we use.

waste water goes out to a butt to use for watering the garden
