Hello,  We are moving to Rojales in the Autumn with 3 children (8, 10, 12)

We would be interested to hear any advice and knowledge regarding schools in the area.  Ideally we are looking for a non fee paying primary and secondary school that has English speaking teachers/pupils.

Thank you.

Are you sure this is a good idea if you cannot afford private school fees?

Thanks for the link Ray.  That's really helpful.

As you say, hopefully there will be a few members that can offer first hand experience of moving to the area and their experiences with the local schools.

I'm not sure what you mean?

Thank you for sharing your daughters experience.

Our concern is mainly with the 12 year old who may find it more challenging to learn the language at first. He is also a little shy.

However all three children are very sporty so we hope they will make friends from football and gymnastics activities. Which we also need to research.

Perhaps this post may be of interest.  It is a different area but it is a young family who have moved to Costa Blanca recently.

Many thanks for this link. It is very useful and is great to hear such positive views.

It’s a big step for all of us but we are hopefully doing it for the right reasons and with my parents already settled in El Raso we have a good chance of making it a successful move.

Thanks again for all your help and sharing your experiences.

Having your parents nearby will hopefully be of great mutual benefit.  You probably know a lot about life in Spain already.   My one piece of advice would be to live close to good public transport and the amenities of a large town.  In just the blink of an eye your children will be teenagers with more complex needs for everything basically.

Have you used the search symbol at the top of this page?

If you type in Schools in the search bar and Everything in the location bar you will get back several pages of questions and answers from other parents of young families looking to find a different life in Spain.   Perhaps you may find potential contacts? 🙂

Hello:

I am Spanish with a son (13 years) and daughter (11 years). Since they are in the school I dont know how many children arrived knowing nothing about Spanish (an error because teacher could spend some time in their country to help about with some private teacher). Anyway, every children learned very quickly Spanish.

My recommendations: put them in a Spanish school, contract an Spanish teacher for a little while but the most important, dont contract English TV for a while, force them to see Spanish channels, also Youtube videos, etc. I know a lot of English people that live here for 15 years and they can not comunicate good with the doctors, children's teachers, waiters. It is little hard in the begining but Spanish will open them, and you, to a bigger world.

Of course you will speak with them in English and they will see TV on English in the future but push them a little.

Regards
