Hi all,

my husband and I are hoping to purchase in Spain (when we receive an offer on our UK property which is currently on the market).

My parents own a property in Mar Menor Golf Resort which is lovely but too quiet an area for us we feel.

Guardamar has been recommended as a possible area for us and we’d like some input/suggestions/food for thought from anyone currently living in that area. Are there better areas within Guardamar to purchase, for example? What are the main pluses and minuses of Guardamar living?

We fly to Spain in 2 days time and will spend at least a day there sussing out areas, things to do, and the like. (We don’t wish to live more than 45 mins from Alicante airport).

We are a couple in our mid forties that like to socialise - imperative we make some nice friends! Am looking for arty crafty groups, walking clubs, coffee catchups and Spanish language classes so I may continue my studies. (I’ll often be on my own for spells).

*if sold on the area itself, may look to rent a small apartment Aug/Sept time before making a house purchase.

Thanks in advance 😊

Hi, I came out to Spain ahead of my wife to look for areas to live. I found Guardamar to be a bit quiet for my liking but with a stunning beach. Too built up for us with all the high rise. It does have very good links to other parts from its bus station though.

We settled on Playa Flamenca which is about 45 mins from Alicante airport and closer to your parents. Lots going on every day/night and cloae to the beaches. I would recommend looking around this area and La Zenia.

I hope this helps a little. Good luck with your search.

Martin.

Agree with martin on the bit quiet side! we came in Feb and looked all along the cost and just inland we found Quesada area good for all year living you have Rojales Benijofar and Benimar all great areas within 10 mins of Guadamar have a look on the Talk Quesada Forum http://www.talkquesada.com/  lots of information on it, the main thing is have a good look around to get something that suits you.

Good idea to rent first to look at the areas and get a feel for property's etc.

Hi Jodel

We bought in Portico Mediterraneo last October and we absolutely love it. We are in between Guardamar and La Mata (30 min walk to both) we love Guardamar because it is quiet and still typical Spanish but there are fantastic restaurants and bars it's a very homely welcoming place, when we want entertainment in the evening we just drive, bus or taxi to Quesada or Torrevieja where it is much livier to have a great night out. So we have the best of both worlds. You can also get the bus to Alicante or Torrevieja for €3.75. There are all different nationalities in Portico Mediterraneo and everyone looks out for you,all houses with shared pools. You can also walk to Lemon Tree Market on a Sunday through farmers land we think it's beautiful.

Anyway if you want any more information please let me know

Pa

Would love to hear where you end up buying.  We have been concentrating on Northern Costa Blanca (Orba Valley in particular), but struggling to find a suitable property for our current budget (less than 100k).  Have holidayed south of Alicante in the past and loved it, and then saw a tv programme yesterday with Ciuda Quesada featured.  Looking at a property website and it is SO MUCH cheaper!  We can afford a nice 2 bedroom villa for our budget.  So going to show hubby today and perhaps we will view in the area when we are back in Spetember.  I am a crafting addict too, so looking for an area with plenty of social groups/hobby groups - and it would be fantastic to have a golf course close by (I started having lessons last year) and hubby needs good cycling/cycling groups, which CQ seems to have.  We hope to have bought a property in time to spend Christmas out in Spain - all very exciting!  Ali x

Hi Jode1

My husband and I are in the process of buying an apartment in Guardamar town, competing in a few weeks. We visited Guardamar, La Mata, Punta Prima, La Zenia and Playa Flamenco in March and fell in love with Guardamar. We then rented an apartment for the whole of May to get a better feel of what it was like to live in Guardamar. It depends what you want from your place in Spain. We wanted a traditional Spanish town within walking distance of everything: beach, parks, shops, tapas bars and restaurants. Free Spanish lessons are also advertised in the tourist office. There are also a number of British people who either live permanently or have holiday apartments in the town itself and those we spoke to have no regrets in buying in Guardamar.Good luck with your search.Lesley

Sounds like we’d have plenty in common Ali so will let u know how we get on. (Looks to me like prices in Costa Blanca are rising again, when inlooked online end of last year, more house for your money.

Hope all works out well for u Lesley! Sounds interesting.

We are looking to make Spain our main base therefore renting in the area before buying sounds sensible.

..... I may well be back in touch with you guys when we’re back to UK on 1st to share our thought on our findings.

....I guess though we really have to base oursleves in a specific area to get a proper idea what Guardamar/La Zenia/Quesada living holds. 👍🏽
