I totally understand the grandparent duties we do two days a week looking after our one year old granddaughter . Our kids always need some help or other . I know what you mean about the Spanish and their homes when we watch the programmes it looks awful their decor then I think maybe they can’t afgord the nicer things . One thing I noticed in Rojales market a very well dressed Spanish man begging what’s that about ? .

Great idea about the note book I will do that can you tell me any places we should avoid as we want to live in a nice safe area . We will be buying detached I couldn’t live in an apartment I don’t like other people walking above or noise below . Do they ever put central heating in houses . .

Enjoy your grandparent duties have fun thanks for all your help your the best . Do you know anything about if I get prescriptions free I am in receipt of uk pension will I have to have a top up insurance or will I get it free as here , even with Brexit I hold an Irish passport so will still be in the EU hub not so for another 6 years . Thanks Rosemary xx🤗🦋😇

There are quite a few local 'freeby' newspapers in English and they do give lots of information.   A couple of websites that may have answers to many of the questions that you will have (instead of listening to bar-room lawyers!) are the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for general and bureaucracy items and the N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   I have lived in Almoradi for 13 years (about 20 minutes' drive inland from Guardamar) and love my life here.

I agree with Golandrina; Almoradí has things going on all year round, whereas coastal towns like Guardamar can feel decidedly deserted out of season, as many of their properties are holiday homes.

If you get the UK state retirement pension, then you can get a form S1 from DWP at Newcastle and transfer from the NHS to the Spanish health system. Initially, you'd pay 10% of prescription costs (which are much cheaper than in the UK), but once you've submitted your first tax return here, unless your taxable income is more than €18,000, your prescriptions would be free.

not entirely true , jim, your generalising,  prescription charges free in scotland , so be worse off, but still good info

arabest - I stand corrected. I was intending to indicate that prescribed medications are cheap in Spain, and certainly cheaper than the fixed charge per prescription if you have to pay that in the UK.

Valencia, and perhaps other autonomous regions, found that even at a cost of only 10%, a lot of people weren't collecting their prescriptions. That's why they made them totally free to anyone below a certain income level.

Almoradí is a very active little town.   Lots of different things to do if you want to join in.   Good health centre, several supermarkets, many different shops, lots of bars and restaurants, a bus station (but not many buses), many different nationalities, lots of fiestas, a lovely small theatre, gyms, dance schools plus many types of clubs.
