Hi Alan, you will have to provide proof of medical insurance to apply for residencia, asssa's 'silver plan' is known as a funeral insurance instead, I think.

Regards

Hi Alan,

I can't comment on ASSA or the level of cover it provides for you, however, before I applied for my Residencia my Gestoria advised me to make sure that when taking out Healthcare Insurance the Insurer provided a separate letter to go with the policy - a "certification" if you like -  which made it absolutely 100% compliant so that the application would not be refused. This was presumably because they had heard of examples like your own.

I would at this point go back to ASSA or ideally your broker, and ask them why this certification was absent, that your Residencia application hinges on it, and to provide it. If no resolution can be made, maybe consider cancelling your policy and finding a company that will provide it.

If it helps you to know this, my Healthcare policy is at the cheaper end of the scale, from DKV, and complied.

Good luck, let us know how you get on............Steve

I used Sanitas. They gave letter and contract. 88 a month. You can apply on the internet or they have office in Torrevieja centre

Cheers Alan, I hope they sort it out for you.

The issue here seems to be that some providers know (when they issue cover) that it might not comply for Residency, but issue it anyway. Or maybe it's that different Police stations have different criteria, who knows!

Best regards, Steve

Hi Alan how many days is it on your insurance for a hospital stay, only I will be applying for residency probably later this year or

early next year, looking around at the moment for medical insurance, costs, etc

cheers Brian

Hi Vernon, on one side almost of the private medical insurance providers issue a separate certificate or letter to go with the policy just for residencia purposes or applications. On the other side, many of the medical companies establish a difference between 'medical hospital stay' (when no surgery takes place but yes in-patient treatment)  limiting the period covered per year to 30 or 60 days depending on the plan, and 'surgical hospital stay' (when a surgery takes place), this without any limit of days, so unlimited.

Although the regulation and requirements in this regard are uniform for all Spain, this seems to be interpreted differently according to which police station and officer in question. Our clients from Orihuela Costa area for example never had problems so far, while in Elche yes for instance.

 Kind regards, Alfonso
