We come over on holidays we went back to the UK Nov and came back a week ago we r returning in April, we are going to move over at the end of the summer ,we aent for our residente so we would be ready.unfortunatly we were stopped by the guardian today because we have English plates and was told we have to get Spanish registration why is it that Brits come over for 2,3 months and they r ok just need some advice please

It depends how long your car has been in Spain. After 6 months here, it must be re-registered (although some people ignore this and drive around illegally). If your UK car is insured by a UK company, there will be strict limits on the validity of your insurance.
It isn't clear from your post how long your car has been here.
It isn't clear from your post whether you have Residencia yet. If you have Residencia, you need to switch to Spanish driving licences.

Thank you we brought our car over a week ago we only got it before christmas in the UK, as I stated we got resedente and my husband has a Spanish licence as we r moving over around October this year just wondered how we stood about getting Spanish car registration

If you have residencia then you are not entitled to be driving a UK regged car, simple as that.
There is a little latitude if you are actively engaged in switching to Spanish reg but technically even that is forbidden.

To re-register your car, get in contact with
www.spanish-number-plates.com. They are often recommended on here. I believe if you bring your car over as part of your household goods that the import duty may be reduced but they will know all about it.
