Hi can my husband buy a beach fishing licence from a tackle shop ? He read somewhere that he has to do a course and pass an exam, all in Spanish, obviously and his Spanish is not good enough. Is this right ?

See the link to the website that gives the information you are looking for, the good news is that if your husband has an existing U.K. License he will not need to do the Exam.

Thank you, this us the site he looked at, but further down in the article it seems to say that you can obtain a licence from local fishing shops and mentions nothing about the exam. He has not been fishing since he was a boy, so doesn't have a UK licence. It seems like a lot of trouble for occasional fishing as a hobby. I don't think he will bother now, the test in Spanish would be too stressful for him.

Also the info Spain site says catch and release licence, then mentions seasons for certain types of fish, which would imply catch and keep to eat ?

Thank you again, it's great to get a reply so quickly

Karen, there is no requirement to take an exam. A good tackle shop will complete the application form for you. You require a copy of your passport and NIE number. A sea licence costs €35 for 5 years.

Hi

I am under the impression that you do not need a licence for sea fishing in Guardamar or the Alicante province. No doubt I will get hung drawn and quartered if I am wrong but that is the impression I get.

You definitely need a license for sea fishing and you will need a separate license to fish from a boat than you would the shore. Plus there is another one for underwater spearfishing.

http://www.gva.es/es/inicio/procedimientos?id_proc=647

There is info on how to process the license on that site and there are numerous online agencies who can do it for you like the one below.
