Hi All

My husband and I are in the process of buying a house in Hondon de las Nieves. We are hoping to sell up in the UK   and be out their by next Spring. I was wondering if anyone keeps horses in this area as I am worried about how to feed  them and if veterinary treatments are available locally? Any advice on these and transportation from the UK to Spain would be appreciated.

Thanks

Liz

Hi Liz

We too are looking at buying a place with land for my horse and I’ll probably rescue one over here.

When transporting them get in touch with a uk based company that transport horses abroad and all you will need is their passports up to date .

As for feed they mainly live on hay ledge as there is no grass or little.

There are the normal vets and farriers around and keep in touch I’ll let you know when I find a good one good luck with the move 👍

I know from a friend who has lived here for 40 years and who used to keep horses, that ‘specialised’ vets who deal with equine problems can be excruciatingly expensive and are usually only available in larger cities/towns. For example we live in Costa Blanca North and she had to pay for vet to come from Alicante on more than one occasion for problems which were beyond the scope of local (usually extremely good) vets.

Hi Stephanie

Thank you for your message very interesting and helpful.I can’t leave my girls behind so hopefully I won’t need a vet too often.

Regards

Liz
