Good morning myself and husband are lucky enough to have took early retirement (44yrs & 50yrs). We have decided that we want to emigrate to Spain and the areas we have considered are in and around Ciudad Quesada and the Hondón Valley. We have done as much research as we can online, but unfortunately we’ve had 3 trips Covid cancelled. Thankfully we’re in a position to buy a villa for cash and we both receive a healthy monthly pension

Hondón Valley and the  beautiful surrounding area, has me enchanted but i am slightly concerned about how quiet the villages maybe as we are social butterflies and we do enjoy a lively wine bar or two. We love the traditional laid back feel of the villages, but can anyone recommend where maybe the closest town where we could travel to when socialising and entertaining friends. I guess we want the best of both worlds, but certainly not the tourist areas which you find with many coastal towns and the beauty of the mountain range in the Valley looks idyllic.. Thank you Nicola

Hi,  They are totally different places in feel, access to amenities, and of course what we all come here for, weather ! This is purely my opinion and others I am sure will differ, however I offer you the opinion because of the differences in your choices.

I regularly cycle the Hondon and the valleys surrounding and it is truly a beautiful place, Hondon de las nieves is a lovely town with a lot of good bars, restaurants and a lively feel. It has a Saturday street market and could easily be my place of choice to live. There are a lot of ex pats living there and nearby. However in the autumn and winter months it is much colder than the coast, and in summer is much warmer. Strange that 25 miles could make such a difference but it does.

Quesada is obviously much closer to the coast and has also many bars/restaurants and all amenities, it benefits from the best of the winter weather however depending on where you choose is much more densely populated and a little sprawling in the way the houses and streets are formed. Being in and around Quesada gives you easy access to everything the region has to offer.

There are benefits to both and the advice I would offer you would be to rent before you make a choice. It gives you options and choices that you don't get if you buy immediately. If you do buy and regret its much more expensive to make a change.

Enjoy the search, do the research and most of all spend some time here before committing. If you haven't already research the residency requirements and subsequent tax implications. My wife and i moved here in similar circumstances to yourselves and have never looked back, we love it ! but it doesn't come without issues, be patient with everything, it saves on the stress !
