The symptoms sound like it's a faulty heat sensor, which I understand is a common fault.

I don't know if he covers the Hondons area, but you could try asking John Cox:

My good friend Jim is quite right!

The pump is an "Espa" (or one of its derivatives), probably green and black in colour. There will be a square plastic box with a lid held on by 4 screws. Inside this box will be a terminal block with wires going into it. Two of the wires go to a small heat sensor with a plastic cover on it, tucked away somewhere in the box. Don't confuse it with the larger, tube shaped condenser. Remove the sensor's two wires from the terminal block, noting which holes they came out of. Get a short piece of cable and bridge between the two holes (thereby replacing the heat sensor with a plain cable).

This procedure has worked well for me many times, and I have never known it to cause a pump to fail. And it won't cost you a cent!

Geoff.
