Hi All

I wonder if anybody can give me some advise on driving from the UK with my dogs to our new home in Spain , to get a dog friendly cabin on the Ferry is proving to be impossible as all booked , so we are exploring the idea of driving and getting on the Eurostar to France , can anybody advise / recommend me good places to stop for the dogs to Exercise and do their business and pet friendly hotels , and give me any advise for our journey .

We have looked at booking through a pet transporter but they are very expensive and I’m not sure if I want to leave them to travel alone .

Thanks in advance for any advise .

Sandra

We've driven down twice with our two dogs, once to visit and then when we moved and the Eurotunnel is so simple with doggy areas both sides. We had no problems finding dog friendly hotels wherever we felt like stopping and service areas on motorways have plenty of space for the dogs to exercise and if off motorway, no end of open countryside. They were only about a year old, not overly used to cars and we had no problems with them at all.
Once you are here, be aware of processionary caterpillars and acquaint yourselves with Spanish rules re muzzles, being leashed and access to beaches. Dogs cannot be loose in cars.

Do it twice a year with two very large dogs.

Eurotunnel cheaper and easier. We don't hotel it though. Too much hassle, we just want to get there. We drive through the night and share the driving. Stop every 3 hrs to give the dogs and wee and a stretch.

Dogs sleep a lot of the way

Hi Sandra, we drive back and forth from Folkestone Eurotunnel with our two small dogs. It's easy in France as almost all hotels take pets. We use campaniles as they mostly have access doors to the outside and you can request a ground floor room. We normally spen our second night at Perpignan and it's about a seven hour drive to hondon. Most Spanish ho tels don't accept pets. If you would like more infoon me. Val Douglas

Euro tunnel definitely we bought our fur baby into Spain two years ago. Vets are very good English speaking too, please make sure as it happened to me, I had my dog chipped in the Uk as you do , but it is not registered on the Spanish system, you must make sure you go and put them on the spanish register system, and will cover all of Spain if the unthink able was to happen . Good luck with your adventure
