Hi, hoping some of you may be able to help with this bit of an odd query. My NLV visa will hopefully be issued with a start date of 1st August. Does that mean I can't enter Spain until the 1st August?

I was hoping to come to Spain around the 25th July but don't want to get turned away at the airport. I am assuming I can enter before the 1st as we could be using some of the 90 days in 180 allocation. I am worried though that they will see the visa about to start and refuse entry.

Any advice or experiences you can share would be appreciated. Many thanks.

You can probably enter Spain before the commencement of your NLV as a tourist. However, you will not be able to go through the formalities of registering as a resident until the commencement date of your NLV. I assume, as a requirement for your visa application, you have private medical insurance which covers you at the minute.

Thank you, that is what I thought. Yes, have private health insurance all sorted for 15 months, so all covered.

I found this link which you might find interesting. Obviously the responder was not a UK Passport holder (most likely American) as in their response they quoted that they were in Spain for 8 years. All third countries - as they are known who require a visa - have to go through the same process as UK passport holders:
