The Hondon valley is a lovely part of the world. You should note that HDLF has a high concentration of British Ex-Pats, which some would consider being negative, on the other hand, it's fair to say an advantage of this, for some, is that you do not really need to speak Spanish (apart from dealing with the official Spanish system of course)
You have a number of options in the area. There is the town living of course, central, bustling and convenient. HDLF also has a wider community, still close to the village and a short walk in. There is the 'Campo' which is more out of town, a few minutes drive, but still close enough to have a sense of belonging.
There is a large urbanisation between Frailes and Nieves which is called Montañosa. This appears to be split into two halves and I would recommend you speak to Steve Bromley at Hondon Valley Homes who is an agent who specialises in that area.
You then have small villages scattered around, such as Canalosa and Barbarroja
The bottom line is you need to decide what sort of living you want, what your requirements are, I dont know how mobile you are or if you drive, but it will impact on your options if you do not.
Personally, I would choose to be in the area but a little further out of the village.
Hope it helps, PM me if you have anything more you would like to know and I will see if I can help.

When the new urban plan was announced a few years ago, and many homes were to loose their plots, the mayor said, ´´Most of them are illegal anyway´´ so please beware. Also try the road down to Albatera if you have nerves of steel and good brakes.. because you will have to traverse it if you want to find a decent supermarket, dentist, health centre, hospital, if you live there.

We live in Frailes and you don't have to use road to Albatera, most you find in area or bit further in Aspe. I have a lot of photo albums on Facebook of the area send me a message if you have facebook and I send a link

Absolutely echo that;
Steven Bromley at HondonValley Homes is a good guy; very knowledgable and intelligent guy. He lives on La Montanosa himself and has done since it was built, so cant get a better recommendation for La Montanosa and Hondon Valley than that. His website, and especially the ‘two minute Tuesday’ information videos are excellent.
Another 5 great things about La Montanosa are...1) Its 10 mins from the excellent City of Elche, and 2) There are no Communal Fees on that Urbanisation, 3) Its half hours easy drive to airport 4) Half hours drive to coast, 5) Apparently less ‘biting insects’ than other places.
Its a very cosmopolitan Urb, which feels more like a neighbourhood than an Urb, and its positioned nicely between the two villages of Frailes and Nieves.
We viewed and looked around there in Nov, Jan and March, and weather was great there. All things considered its probably the best Urb we’ve seen and viewed in, and we’ve seen a lot.

@Hannah01 - You need to engage with a lawyer for the answer to that, anything else is pure speculation. There is more to the checks and balances than just if it is an illegal build, for example, if there is any debt belonging to the property or the land as you become responsible for that too!
If you need a good lawyer who covers the area then PM me and as I will happily recommend an excellent lawyer.
Hope it helps
