Hi, here's hoping all you helpful people know the answer to this one! Do your GP records from the UK go over to your new GP in Spain? I'd rather mine didn't but wanted to know if it was the norm. Thanks very much.

The simply answer is no. However, you can ask your GP for a hard copy summary, which you can keep for your own information or just a summary of the medication you currently are prescribed.

There is not, nor has there ever been, any tie up between medical records in UK or Spain or anywhere for that matter.

Can't see it ever happening either given UK's dogged (pig headed) resistance to making available something as simple and relatively innocuous as driver information which is what lies at the heart of the driving licence farce.

You can request copies from your GP surgery but be prepared to pay for them. As I recall we paid something like £60 for complete copies of ours but that was a number of years since.

Personally I'd want a new doctor to know as much about me as possible but I guess you have reasons for not wanting that.

Thanks very much, really helpful and the request for a hard copy is a good idea.

Thanks Darro, did not think this was the case but glad to have it confirmed. I think a hard copy is a good idea as you never know what you might need to reference in the future.

You can get your records sent for free, as we did, not knowing how difficult it would be to get  ongoing prescriptions but we have never needed them.
At the initial GP appointment here we took our most recent UK prescription and all our medication was added to our records here. All we had to do was have blood and urine tests.

Thanks, will definitely take a copy of our repeat prescriptions.

We took ours on cd to the GP, who said she was not interested and didn’t want them.
