Hello everyone,

my name is John,my wife is Claire and we have a ten year old son called Teddy,we are moving to Spain as soon as our house is sold in Essex,we currently have a villa in Abaran and have had this for 10 years and has been rebuilt from shell which we have been using as a holiday home but this area is not suitable for us to live on a permanent basis as there is next to zero other English there and our spanish is limited to getting by,we have visited Hondon several times at different times of the year and we very much like it there, could anyone please give me an idea of what it is like to live in Hondon full time,is there many families with children, schools and just what type of community it is,we dont want to live somewhere that is all English and with no Spanish culture we do like integrate with Spanish as we have done in Abaran and we have many good friends there but we also need to be around other English too,

we would appreciate any help or info

thanks,John,Claire and Teddy

Hi, we live in Hondon (Frailes) it’s a lovely place with great places to eat and drink with a fantastic mix of nationalities, just pop into the Tipsy Terrace Restuarant and soak up the friendly atmosphere and great food, the Irish bar is a perfect example of how everyone mixes in. We love living here and have made lots of friends. If you make the move I’m sure you will love it.

As part of your research can I suggest that you have a look at Jim's Guides on this site.   The Citizens Advice Bureau Spain can also be helpful.   Just bear in mind that after the 31st January 2020 many things may change.   Also be aware that many provinces and towns 'tweek' the national rules and regulations for their own procedures.

Another helpful site for anything to do with driving in Spain is the N332 website.   This is run in conjunction with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply i am pretty sure we will like living in  Hondon de los Frailes as we have visited the area on several occasions and get a warm homely feel for the village but my only concern is that moving to Hondon with a ten year old boy who needs to make friends with his own age and settle well in to a local school both of which we have zero knowledge of in Hondon.would you have any info on these concerns please,we appreciate your response.

cheers,John.

I am sorry that I cannot help with knowledge about Hondon, either Hondon de los Frailes or Hondon de las Nieves, as I live nearer the coast in Almoradí.

Hi John, unfortunately I cannot help regarding your ten year old son other than there seen to be quite a few children of that age about and I glad to report that they all seem a friendly bunch, and you often see the youngsters out with there parents enjoying the village lifestyle, having two dogs has meant we have encountered lots of children wanting to make a fuss of them.

All the best

Our pleasure, hope you enjoy the walk about in April, sorry to hear about the storm damage, luckily being in a valley we seem to avoid the worse of the weather other than high winds.

Take care

Andy & Ali

Hi, this isn't an answer to your question, more of a question.

We are also thinking of moving to spain with a 10 year old. What are you doing about schooling I hope you don't mind me asking?

Regards

Julie Boddy
