We only went out once yesterday, for dinner at Irish Bar, between 9.30-12.30. During this time we were broken into. Our house is not overlooked, it is very difficult to find unless you have local knowledge.  During this period the burglars had the confidence to use a power tool to cut through heavy grilles. Their confidence was obviously due to the fact they knew where we were for the whole period.

My sympathies to you.

I know it's a very unpleasant experience.

Sorry to hear this. Did you make a prior reservation for dinner? And, are you known at the restaurant? In other words is it possible someone has tipped the burglars off?

No prior reservation. Yes we are known. As it was the only place we went on Saturday at very unusual hours for us 9.30 to 12.30, it is logical to  assume a connection. It is a shame as we love the Irish Bar but now feel unable to be seen there.

Such a shame. I did have a similar experience in the UK several years ago.

On certain nights we arrived home just after 12.00 midnight, Monday Wednesday and Sunday. One Sunday we arrived back unusually early at 11.00pm to find burglars just leaving our house. It had a pretty sophisticated alarm system and would have needed some time to disconnect all the traps and sensors. Without doubt they were tipped off and expected to be away long before we returned.

Needless to say we changed our routine and started being more vigilant about vehicles parked nearby.

It's very annoying for you and I hope your insurance does the right thing.

Kind regards

Steve

They wouldn’t necessarily have known where you were or for how long, with battery powered grinders, saws , drills etc no problem getting in anywhere, probably in and out in minutes.
