Good afternoon,

My name is David Houlihan and I currently live in Ireland.

Myself and my wife are planning on visiting Jacarilla in January (covid permitting) with a view on a property we have come across there.

Just asking are there many English speaking people around the area?

Are there any walking clubs/ groups ?

Is there somewhere around that we can brush up on our Spanish (language classes) ?

Has anyone lived in the area for a while and if so can you tell me of your experience living there ?

Lots of questions I know (apologies).

Jacarilla doesn't feature much on the forum. I've lived here 4 1/2 years and have never been to it or through it but I imagine it will be like most small villages inland....mainly Spanish, you will need an interpreter for medical appointments, few locals will speak English and you will need a car.
If you are able to come in January all well and good but you need to find an area that suits before you start looking at properties as everything looks lovely online and if you buy you could be stuck with it for some considerable time and it will cost a lot of money to sell.

I have to agree with Cheryl. The majority of English speaking expats live on the coast, clustered around the N332 road.

Hi David, I live 7km from Jacarilla. There are many English people living there and many Spanish who speak English but of course being a village a lot of them don’t. As for Spanish lessons the town hall often put them on free but only a few weeks at a time. I have lessons in Algorfa which is not far away at an excellent language school which is very cheap but depends if you want private lessons or join a group. Good Luck.
