As an experienced photographer earlier this year I was looking for a Camera Club and thanks to someone on the Forum was pointed towards a Club in Torrevieja, joined in September, meets twice a month in La Siesta, varied and interesting programme and friendly with a wide range of experienced photographers. Check out the website at Torrevieja Digital Camera Club.( www.tdcc.es ). I don´t know if this helps, perhaps there is a Club closer to your location.

WoW. Thanks for such a swift response. Tortoise only 20 minutes from the village. I’ll have a look at the website and hopefully attend the next meeting.

Very much obliged. Thanks.

Theres lots of tutorials on Youtube.com for the Nikon cameras. Also tutorials about lighting and composing a shot.

I recently bought the Nikon D5300 spent a few weeks using it on automatic to get a feel for the camera. Now it’s on manual all the time.

Ther’s no shame in using the camera in automatic mode most of the time.

I’ve been a keen photographer for almost 50 years and spend 12 of those years working as a professional photographer (doing rather boring industrial photography for British Coal). My default setting on my Nikon DSLR is Program Auto and I generally just use the exposure compensation control to increase or decrease the exposure.

Obviously there are times when you need to use a specific aperture or shutter speed to obtain a particular effect, but most of the time that’s not necessary.

My advice is not to get too hung-up with the technicalities of the equipment, but instead focus (ha!) on developing the skill of seeing a good photo. That often means looking for a different angle.

The skill that’s difficult to develop is the ability to look critically at what you're seeing in the viewfinder and ask yourself if it can be improved by changing your framing, or moving slightly to change the juxtaposition of elements within the composition. Learning the basic ‘rules’ of composition and applying these to what you see through the viewfinder is also a good starting point. Of course, rules are made to be broken, but they’re there for a reason and often lead to the most pleasing images.

It’s a while since I’ve updated it, but there some of my photos here:
