My most beloved long term relationship with LEXUS LS  2.8 looks like ending after years of motorway and mountain joy together. Now just 22 years old, instead of a dignified and respected retirement of usefulness, this noble beautiful companion has never complained through winter and summer, motorway and country lane, and is finally brutally constrained by the draconian 2 year old unfeeling unseeing unhearing monster Brexit. Go home to England and die, and never again delight in the sunny silent mornings of the glorious  mountain roads of Spain....suffocate and die in some EEC Brexit rules, sans ITV sans left hand drive, sans restored beautiful headlights.......... sans everything

Not sure what the problem is?

Is it that the car is in Spain but on UK plates so has to go back to the UK? If so, why not go through the process of importing it?

Perhaps time for a new relationship with a Spanish registered car if you're resident in Spain. Either take the Lexus back or matriculate onto Spanish plates, if you think it's worth it. Nothing to do with Brexit

Hi timbo2020,

As a resident of Spain, failing to transfer your beloved Lexus onto Spanish plates made it illegal here after 6 months.  Could your mention of "2 years" actually be about the requirement to exchange your UK driving licence for a Spanish one, an exchange which, as EU citizens, we were required to do within 2 years of moving in Spain?  However, since Brexit, UK citizens now have to do this within 6 months of moving here, but as there is no longer an agreement between Spain and the UK to exchange driving licences, currently this can only be done by taking a Spanish driving test.  Another Brexit benefit 🙄

Kind regards,

Kim

Kim,

read the other posts from Timbo - the poster is in the UK and not a resident.

He (assume he) has set up a internet property sales website and has or had serious heath problems, reminds me of another poster on here some time back who was looking for help getting back to the UK.

I agree.  This appears to be the same poster who, I suspect, was previously banned from posting after trying to solicit help to remain in Spain illegally.or obtain financial assistance.

aitch,

Yep, I also read timbo's previous posts before responding.  He said he'd returned to the UK because of ill-health, but didn't say how long he had been in Spain, or whether he had previously held residency here that lapsed because of his subsequent absence from Spain.  He said his documents were with a "trusted lawyer", but gave no timescale of when/how long they had been in possession of them, or what progress, if any, had been made in that regard.

In fact, if timbo IS non-resident, and has always been so, then there is no issue with his car being in Spain on UK plates, so long as he has been complying with Spanish residency rules and has ensured that the car has received it's annual MOT when he has returned it to the UK each year.  If others want to make assumptions about what timbo has, or hasn't, been doing, that's up to them.

Hi Kim,

isn't it interesting how posts can be read and interpreted differently. When I read Timbo saying he is hoping to use "the statutory 13 weeks to get stronger and, God willing, meet requirements to stay" that meant he was not a resident, but that is my interpretation, maybe I am wrong.

Well I expect that when Timbo responds again it will all be made clear.

Rgds,

I wonder if timbo, and his beloved Lexus, have been living in Spain under the radar, and have now realised that a trip back to the UK (for the cars’ MOT perhaps if it is still UK registered) will mean returning back to Spain will incur issues gaining entry ??? Who knows, maybe timbo can elaborate on the predicament and reasons why the Lexus needs to gracefully leave Spain…?

thankyou -I was zoomed off in an ambulance to a hospital in Hellin from Riopar, a beautiful region about 90 mins from Alicante inland. From thence, I eventually was given a room in a carehome near London - long story- and wrapped up in survival day by day. It worked but I lost the deadline to register in Spain. I receive excellent care but I'm not dead yet as long as I breathe I shall continue to pray/do/believe for/ find a way to return to Spain to live !! With ref to the Lexus, like a faithful dog waiting for the return of its master, it looks like the Brexit rules would rather see it die.
