I am interested in purchasing a property in the vicinity. What is the rental potential for the area. I will only be visiting 3-4 times a year for holidays for the first couple of years and would like to rent in between until I can move more permanently nearer retirement.

You will need to enquire with the local Town Hall about whether there are any roads or communities where it is not possible to obtain a Tourist License as you will need the Town Hall to issue a Certificate of Compatibility to be able to apply for the License.

If you find a property that is already Licensed then it is transferable to you as the new owner.

Not all properties meet criteria, so ensure you use an independent local solicitor familiar with the regulations who can run basic checks before you commit to the purchase.
