Jalon, Orba, Pedreguer or Pego?

Where we live there is a good ex pat community (including Dutch, meisje! Ik heb in Nederland drie jaar gewoond) and friendly locals. You should check it out.

But also love nature and walking the dog, thats why I think about Pego and Pedreguer instead of Denia or Javea. And of course more house for your money. The first thing was that the house was perfect for us at the price - a three bedroom villa with pool overlooking the valley and the orange groves. We lucked out with the neighbourhood and the locals, who are all very nice.

We are only 15 minutes drive from Deveses beach but it is very quiet here when the coast is very crowded with tourists (like now!). There are a lot of dog owners around here and plenty of places to walk....

Yes, we are very happy because we live in a nice country area but can be in the nearby towns very easily if we want to. You'd be welcome to come and have a look any time. Call in for a coffee.

The coastal towns population usually multiplys greatly in summer so its hard to avoid crowds.

The views in the Jalon valley are lovely especially when the almond blosum is out, around Feb.

We found a nice mix of nationalities Spanish/British/Dutch/German/ Belgium/Swiss/Scandinavians

The Orba valley is also very nice and both areas are a reasonably short drive to lots of lovely coastal towns Denia/Javea/Moraira/Calpe

...ion of approx 10,000 and is much more multicultural than Jalon Valley, which is what we preferred.  Market day is on Thursday mornings and throughout the summer the council put on free weekend events such as live music concerts in its Plazas.  Pego also has a local theatre and plenty of shops. We did not want to live on an urbanisation and found a perfect villa with a pool and good size plot in the campo, surrounded by orange groves.  The town does also have a municipal pool and a private pool and tennis club.

Think about your own personal criteria.  I’m 65 and it was important for me to be able to live within walking distance to the town as I don’t always want to drive.  There’s also some lovely walks in the campos and hills.  We love the sea and 15 minute drive to the coast is perfect.  The port of Denia is very close and very cosmopolitan.  Great beaches, restaurants, shops and also has an historical castle.  Oliva is also a busy traditional Spanish town with amazing beaches, 10 minutes drive from Pego.  Adsubia, the next village to Pego, is a charming small village with its own art gallery.

My only negative comment is dog owners who allow their dogs to bark night and day.  Where ever we have lived in Spain this is a huge problem.  Earplugs are a must!
