Looking to find how retired expats generally find/meet each other, socialise together and build a life in Javea !

One word of warning!  Be careful when choosing a solicitor for any legal work that you may have....I'll say no more!

Hi Sylvia, as you may already have discovered, Javea is a town very much geared to the foreign population in terms of facilities,shops etc, although I believe I am correct in saying that there are more British than other nationalities; but it is a multicultural centre.

One of the easiest ways to find out what’s going on is to buy a copy of The Costa Blanca News, which has a useful directory of local towns/villages and the clubs/groups and so forth.

Without knowing much about your likes/dislikes/requirements it’s difficult to be more concise, but would echo the advice from g3nmh. 

Any English person claiming to be a ‘solicitor’ here should be avoided as the qualifications are most certainly not valid in Spain. The Spanish version is an ‘abogado’, lawyer, who would deal with most things such as property purchase etc; having said which there are several perfectly legal multilingual English legal advisors who are qualified as abogados; not forgetting of course the perfectly legal and helpful native Spanish abogados, many of whom do speak English. Avoid those recommended by estate agents.

in this area, as there is such a huge foreign population, life is very similar to anywhere else. With better weather. The Spanish legal requirements and endless bureaucracy do in general try the patience of most Northern Europeans, but in the end, one has two choices and we elected to come here!!!!

Join a U3A.  Javea, Denia, Moraira Teulada and Jalon Valley all have one.  Check their websites.  Loads of activities and events and very friendly people.  Amateur dramatics... Javea Players looking for help with costume making, scenery etc., ... Inn on the Green bowling, Javea Golf.  Pop in to somewhere like Oasis restaurant on the beach for half price drinks in the late afternoon...very friendly people.  Join Javea Connect online for up to date events, stuff for sale and ask any question.  We have only been here for a month, too.

I have a passion for languages and have already started spanish classes - sharing this hobbie in some way with others, would be great and prove very helpful as I am very keen to improve my Spanish. I am also part French (speak fluent French) so meeting French people good too. Frankly, I love other cultures so socialising with all nationalities also very interesting for me. I like learning to dance - all dances. I'm a communicator, good socialliser and somewhat of an intelligentual - meaning, I like intellectual conversations as well day to day lighter fun conversations. I am also a foodie - love good food and wine. Sadly, I am not a walker or sportive (although I should be !). Hope this helps Stéphanie ??

I'd really be interested in your thoughts and experiences in Javea - I'm also keen to semi retire and currently planning a recce to Javea in a few weeks time although I haven't booked any accommodation yet.  I have similar interests to you and have lived abroad (Hong Kong, Greece and Holland) before.
