My husband and I are moving to Spain for about 18 months in April 2019.  Looking online I really like the Alicante province.  We are looking for somewhere with a home town feel.  We will not have a vehicle so having access to public transportation is important.  I would appreciate any suggestions from anyone living in this area to help me narrow down my choices.

I assume you'll get plenty of suggestions. A couple I'd consider:

Almoradí has every facility you'd need if you haven't got transport; it has a bus station where you can travel to Alicante, Orihuela, Guardamar etc, but the buses only run a few times a day.

Orihuela has a train station as well, but it's not to everyone's taste.

Assuming that you have a driving licence, would suggest that it may be worth your while to invest in a small second hand car; outside main cities, public transport is not generally as frequent or comprehensive as UK, although of course there is provision. We live outside a small inland village/hamlet and although there is a bus stop, I have never seen it in use!!!

Jim, thank you for your suggestions.  I will check out these places.  I appreciate any suggestions on places to live.

Thank you Stephanie.  We have considered getting a car but we were trying to avoid that.

To recommend something you need to say if you want to be beside the beach or montain. How big house you want,  pool or little yard. Budget also would help. Help us to help you.

Idea: I want a palace with 4 bed and 4 bath, pool beside the beach. Budget 100€: real place... my dreams.

2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms (1 bath is ok).  Near the beach or at least within walking distance or a short bus ride.  Yard would be nice but not necessary.  Within walking distance to shops and restaurants.  No more than 600 euros per month.

Thank you everyone for your comments.  This is a great forum.
