I bank with Sabadell and have found their charges high. Look into this with any bank before taking the plunge.

We bank with Sabadell and because we regularly pay our pensions into the account, there are no charges. They also issued a credit card with three months interest free credit, and are always very helpful. Just ask them for advice as which account is best for you.

Hello
Thank you for that. I will be able to pay all my pension in soon, so that should make a difference.

I have to fly in to Valencia in September and it seems that transport to Javea is not as easy as flying into Alicanti. I am thinking of renting a car, or perhaps trying to find an airport transfer if not too expensive.
I would be really grateful if anyone has any recommendations.
Many thanks

I believe there is a direct ALSA bus but not very frequent. I think there's a bus to the central bus station and then onwards from there.

I have been in Spain 32 years and always banked with Caixaltea (which has changed its name and status many times). Provided you have a pension paid in monthly no matter how small, the banking will be free. Caixaltea is now a part of the larger Cajamar group and I believe the same or similar conditions apply. There is usually someone who speaks at least a little English. My experience of the bancos is pretty grim. I would always chose a caja rather than a banco as the service is usually more personable. BBVA in particular works like a machine - as do the staff. If you push the right button you get the expected result. If not, it's hell on earth! In view of the questionable state of the European banks, I would never keep large sums in one. Best to keep substantial money, whether euro or pounds outside Spain.

Try Cajamar near the Port. Cajas are always better than bancos I find. Last time I was there they had a Swiss gentleman who spoke good English
