Hi, if this is first time in Spain, firstly have you got your settings set up for roaming? Its unusual not to get any signal. You may have to set up manually the partnering network which is again in your settings, networks, look for selecting automatic roaming network and phone will select the correct network your UK partner is assigned to. It would be an advantage if you can use your UK phone instead of rushing out for a Spanish sim as all UK networks allow roaming at the same cost as using it in the UK, that is if your phones are contract phones as opposed to paygs .As far as payg sims go I can recommend a Company called "hits mobile" they work on the Vodafone network but much cheaper than the big names, Orange, Vodafone or Movistar. They have a good website where you can topup with card save you running out to shop to put credit on. They will even send out a sim free if you have time to wait for it(3-5 days) and they have english speaking customer service agents. I suspect your problem is your phone needs setting up to receive roaming partner so persevere with your present UK provider to get it working in Spain as this would be the cheapest and easiest for you. Are you on contract in UK or payg.?

Pauline.

Rollover contract but want to keep this phone for incoming calls and thought it would be cheaper to use Spanish pay as you go for Spanish calls is this not true? Should I just continue with my O2 uk phone?

Your O2 contract would be much cheaper because all spanish sims have a connection charge of approx 15c or more each call plus the minute charge. My UK sim is Tesco which runs on O2 in UK and the partner is Movistar in Spain. Tesco allow me to phone Spanish numbers (mobiles too) in my contract and UK as normal.Think your 02 would as well. Go to your website O2 and read roaming conditions. Have you "ticked"roaming in your settings and then also in connection settings selected "other networks", then "automatic select" it should then find Movistar and put your phone onto that network because that is the registered partner for O2. I,ve had a spanish hits sim(I use a dual sim phone) for 10yrs but in 2016 UK added roaming in EU as standard, however I keep hits sim as its connected to a hits sim in my house alarm, but now never use it for calls or data as my UK sim is cheaper on contract. If unsure how to set your phone up properly, ask a neighbour or go to a phone shop. You may actually have to inform O2 you are roaming as some UK providers have to enable their end too. Good luck and may I ask you to tick the helpful tabs if you,ve found my replies help

Regards

Pauline.

EU roaming was implemented by the EU onto all EU mobile operators. After Brexit, the UK operators will no longer be obligated to offer this service, unless it is part of a deal. If no deal and then it will be up to the individual UK providers whether or not they continue this after, as they will have no obligation to do so anymore. Just a thought...
